SOURCE: My Canon A460 Digital camera displays ''card locked''.

There is not many things that could cause this symptom. The card lock position mechanism is faulty and will require a replacement circuit board. Most likely about a 20-30 dollar part.

SOURCE: How to format an SD card on a Canon SD600 camera

Could be that you have the wrong memory card.
SD600 will only work with the old SD cards, but the SD780 will take the SDHC cards.
SDHC was intended to give 4gb or more of storage, while the old SD started as 16 mb.  Different cameras have different limits, but it is always best to assume that the practical limit on an SD card is 2mb.  Even if the SD780 will take the SDHC cards, it can be more practical to only carry 2GB SD cards and know that they will fit either camera

Micro sd adapter i keeps in camera it is shows card locked

SD and Mini SD memory cards has a small slide switch on the edge of the card, which write protects data on the memory card or add photos to the SD card. Slide the switch from the LOCK position to the UNLOCK position, which is furthest away from the contacts.

Canon legria fs306 will not recognise the 4gb sdhc card i put into it, but recognises the 2gb sd card, when it should register both! need to use sdhc, how can i fix this?

You haven't stated the make and model of SDHC card; it's not unknown for cards to become faulty or even for cheaper no-name brands to be re-labelled factory reject.

Make sure that the lock switch on the edge of the card is fully unlocked, and if that doesn't work try it in another SDHC compliant device. If that fails then you have a faulty SDHC card which must be replaced. Otherwise it's the camera which is at fault. There have not been any firmware updates, so the only option would then be to return the camera to a Canon Service Centre. Depending upon when you bought it, the repair might be under warranty.

How do i unprotect my memory card from a canon 450d?

Hi,
Thanks for using Fixya.
Every SD card should have a write protect switch located on the right edge, about 5mm from the top of the card. In order to unlock the card, slide the switch upwards.

Note that with Mini SD and Micro SD (Transflash) these switches are not present. The card is always unlocked. A switch may however be present on an SD card adapter.

Because of the position of the switch they can often be switched accidentally on inserting or removing the card.

Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Locked memory card

There is a tiny switch located on the side of the memory card, might even say lock on it or beside it. Just flick the switch opposite of the way it is now and it should work fine after that. There might even be a small arrow showing which way to switch it. The reason for the lock button is "just" for this, so you don't accidentally erase some wanted pictures or someone else.
