I'm using a Singer Fashion Mate 237, and I can't get a single stitch out on fleece. It was working fine before though. I cleaned my machine and oiled it, changed my needle various times and with various sizes, and it still won't stitch.
It will only stitch when I use the hand wheel and, when the needle is down, roll it backwards and forwards a few times in the same place.
The only thing I can see wrong is my shuttle hook has a lot of little scratches on it. Earlier, I was trying to sew through six layers of fleece, and it would keep making a loud sound. I suppose this is what the loud sound was.
SIX Layers !!!!
You really need a size 16 needle that won't bend and miss the hook by the sound of it....can you sew on less challenging thicknesses OK ??
If not, the timing may need adjusting...here is a link to assist:

It sounds like a lot, but I only go through that many for an inch or so at once. ^^; I've been making hats like these, and I need to go through that many on the ears; http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs45/f/2009/1...
I made a couple dozen without problems on a size 14 needle, oddly enough. I've tried size 16, but it hasn't helped since I've had the problem. I'll try to adjust the timing though! Thanks for the link!
Update: Okay, for some reason, it sews mostly fine when the needle is set on the left. When it's centered, it misses nearly all the time, and when it's on the right, it hits the shuttle. The bobbin moves when I set the needle position, so I don't get why it does this.
