My range was doing the same thing. I finally called the Consumer Protection Agency and reported it. It launched a national recall. With their help, Frigidaire replaced my range. On Easter 2014, the new one did the same thing. Burner turned on by itself, to 8.5 with knob in the off position. We had to unplug it. Frigidaire once again did not care. I contacted the CPSA again - they are investigating. I will NEVER have another Frigidaire Range. Check your model number against the recall information. Don't trust it! It is a fire hazard.
Every manufacturer has to provide support for their products with certain conditions. Check Consumer Protection Act & MRTP Act in your country. You can go to Consumer Forum.
