Sounds like a small control board may have died, more specifically, a failed capacitor or such. Resistance is often achieved by pulsing an "eddy current" brake driven by a transistor, or draining a generator charge electrically, which are attached to a central crank, which stiffens the torque required to rotate and the user sees this as a increase in resistance :-) you can always contact jatinah electronics for further help.

i think you have a busted bearing in the pedal crank... to be sure you can check the pedal for any play (shaking), then you would need to remove the casing and disassemble the pedals and check the bearings...
get it replaced and it should be good.
