SOURCE: Keyboard broken on my Acer Aspire 5520

For the Acer Aspire 5520 I'm working on, (Acer Aspire 5520-5156, mode nol: ICW50)

Remove the three black screws under the battery, not the silver screws.

VERY carefuly pry off the power button cover. It will make 'snapping' sounds and if you where gentle nothing will be broken.

The keyboard has no screws holding it and can be slid toward the screen and very gently pryed out, taking care not to tear the ribbon cable, as mentioned before.

When the keyboard is out the cable can be released by gently pulling the cable lock on the header toward the cable, the thin (black in this case, it's usualy a different color than the white connector) plastic part of the connector I just use my fingernails, one index finger on each end slowly pulling till it releases.
Pull the cable out using the pull tab. You can just pull the flat cable out with the pull tab without releasing the calbe lock but you stil need to release the cable lock to properly put in the new cable, then push the cable lock back tight to the connector.

I am having problem with my acer aspire 5742G laptap. I am not able to on my keyboard light. Please help me how to turn on keyboard light?

Not exact answer, but I hope a useful tip. You can google and find almost any user manual for any PC online. Just allow the PDF to download, go to index, and look up keyboard back-light. I cannot tell you how many problems I've solved just by downloading a FREE user manual for my PC from the maker's web site. Good luck.

I have an acer aspire and my document cannot be edited because the back space and delete button are not responding.

If they are still unresponsive after a reboot it is possible that the keyboard keys have gone bad.

Bad news, The keys themselves cannot be replaced, the entire keyboard must be replaced.

No so bad news. You can get a replacement keyboard for an Acer for about $15-$30 (plus install cost). Any local shop should be able to replace it in about 10 it 15 minutes.

If you are ambitious you can replace the keyboard yourself. Find and order it online, then just google "replace acer aspire keyboard". There are a number of sites with instructions on how to replace it.

For right now: You can hook an external usb keyboard to the laptop and it should work without problems, until you can get the laptop keyboard fixed.

How do I remove acer aspire 9810 keyboard,I have removed the base cover and screen assembly but I cant fugure out how to remove the keyboard Thanks in advance Peter

to remove the keyboard, remove the screws at the back of your laptop. Then remove the Hard drive, then remove the Optical drive then remove the video card, and then power supply. Then remove the fan from the motherboard and you may remove the screws on top of the keyboard. Finally you may replace the keyboard.

How to change a keyboard on an acer aspire 5738z? i spilt a drink on my laptop and the keyboard isnt in full working order so i need a new keyboard fitted and just need to know how easy it would be to...

You need to take out switch cover but need to take care on left side because a flat cable need to be disconnected after you lift the cover, after switch cover removal you need to lift keyboard from the upper side (four clips are holding it), finally turn back your keybaord to disconnect from mainboard connector by lifting a black holder.

Aspire 5100 and aspire 9100

I'm not sure I understand completely the problem you are having with your Aspire. However, it seems you are having problems with keyboard, touchpad etc.

One thing I realized a few months ago, mine started going crazy. I searched the web all over and found that REMOVING the battery completely solved the problems with the keyboard and touchpad problems.

I have to use mine without the battery in. Only plugged in.

Try removing the battery, leaving it out, plugging in the power supply and see if that does not fix the craziness of the touchpad and keyboard.

Good luck!
