There is no such medication OTC. If it is truly the flu. The flu is a virus and cannot be killed with OTC medication. You will have to go to the doctor, and get a prescription for Tamiflu which will lessen the duration and effects of the flu. I cant for the life of me understand why people don't get a flu shot at the beginning of the season.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your reply. This Was a general question to see if OTC medication is covered. I do not see the need for all to have the flu shot especially in our Eastern Cape climate."
Coughing up
blood can be a sign of a serious medical condition and you should get a
doctor's opinion immediately. It's officially called Hemoptysis and can be
caused by a lot of different issues, so you need to consult with a medical professional who can do blood tests,
xray etc to find the cause.
Although it's best to avoid medications during pregnancy where possible, there are a lot of over the counter drugs that are ok to use. You need to avoid any non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs and nasal sprays but the best thing is to check with your doctor or pharmacist before you take anything. And drink a lot - that helps too.
Whilst there
isn't much a doctor can do to treat flu (other than advise pain relief,
decongestants etc), it can be helpful to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis
and especially if the symptoms are not improving.
Seek medical
attention if:
- There is
difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Confusion
- Severe or
persistent vomiting
- Seizures
- Chest pain
Here are
some of the main flu symptoms, but if you are concerned at all about your son
you should get a medical professional to take a look at him;
-
Temperature over 100 degrees or high fever
-
Runny / blocked nose
-
Sore throat and cough
-
Headache
-
Chills
-
Body pain
-
Fatigue
- Upset stomach
