There are Linux password recovery programs on the Internet that allow you to remove the passwords on User accounts.
You can Google search and download the program, you then need to make a boot CD with this program.
ALternately you can purchase a copy of Windows XP or Vista and wipe Windows 2K and install XP or Vista on the laptop.

you wont be able to see your contact list in the new user account since this is a totally different username. If y ou cant remember your password, there is an option to click on forgot password. click that adn it will give you the option to retrieve the password. check this link as well:

Please try to start from the beginning and reformat the hard drive by shutting down the system with the cd drawer open. Then insert the windows disk and turn on the pc then the drawer closes and when it tells you boot from cd press enter. Then windows will load. It will give you a couple of options. Always choose format partition. Then you should not have any problems. Unless your hard drive is bad.
