For most laptops with present day systems and software, it should be a connect-and-go process. Just hook the cable into the laptop's output and the TV's input. Make sure the TV is set to the input channel to receive HDMI. If the sound still comes through the laptop speakers, you'll need to go into the laptop's sound settings and configure it manually to put the audio through the HDMI cable.

If your Acer laptop has an older system like Windows XP, you'll need to use hotkeys or manual display configuration from the laptop to set its output to HDMI. Some laptops don't automatically recognize when they've been hooked up to a TV and will need to be told.

I do have Windows XP... What do you mean by hotkey?? My laptop as an vga port but no HDMI port but I have a USB to HDMI box to use but can't get it to link up to my Hisense Smart TV

That's my configuration too, Windows XP with VGA but no HDMI. By hotkeys I mean a keyboard shortcut you can type in, which instantly switches your display from "laptop" to "monitor". Mine, of course, is Ctrl+Alt+M.

My Windows XP uses Intel Graphics Media Accelerator to guide the switch to VGA or S-Video, but as for USB I can't be sure. Windows XP may not be compatible with that; when you hook the USB cable into the laptop, you should get a setup dialog box to configure the USB to HDMI settings. If you don't get a box like that, and you can't access the device in My Computer, then you won't be able to use it. You'd be better off with the VGA and auxiliary in that case.

Without knowing for certain, I'm fairly sure Windows XP won't be able to do it; I think that system is optimized for VGA. Most laptops with Windows XP use VGA and some DVI. However, if you got a setup CD with the USB-HDMI box, this might make it work on Windows XP.

:) no problem. I'm usually a noob at electronics, but I know some of the "fun stuff". Could you tell me what you did that worked? I'd like to know for future reference and helping others.

I had to hook everything up then turn everything off and back on... Once everything was back up and running I had to control alt m like you said and it brought up where I can move it from the computer to the TV

  • Billy Hall
    Billy Hall Jan 31, 2018

Oh wow O_O I hope the turning off and back on isn't a requirement. Maybe you'll be able to do this without that hassle.

Honestly when I said Ctrl+Alt+M, I just meant my own personalized hotkey. I didn't realize it was the default for this case. Guess I'll be remembering that :)

    Billy Hall Jan 31, 2018

Best if you can find where in the display settings it allows this too, rather than just the hotkey alone. That may give you a feeling of added security. I know it would do the same for me.

Do you mean the VGA cable is an inconvenience? I love VGA, it's perfect for me.

  • Stacy Waters
    Stacy Waters Jan 31, 2018

Yes all I have to do is plug the VGA cable to computer and tv and it comes up on tv by it's self

  • Billy Hall
    Billy Hall Jan 31, 2018

Okay but I mean why does your family have to sit on top of each other to watch TV? Did you mean the VGA or watching on the laptop

SOURCE: I connect my laptop (Dell

You have to tell the laptop to use either DUAL or EXTERNAL display.

This is usually done with the FN button pressed in conjunction with the F5 key (may be other key)

The F key you want will have a small monitor icon or even two overlapping monitor icons.

you have to set the screen resolution correctly.
go to control panel > display settings,
there you can activate the second screen, that is, your tv screen.

Goto Control Panel, then Display, then goto the Settings tab, then click the Advanced button near the bottom (above the apply button) then goto the Overlay Tab, then click the Theater Mode Options button. Then change the Overlay Display Mode from Standard to Theater Mode & click apply. Also you can choose to change the theater mode setting as well. Change from 4:3 Standard TV mode to 16:9 Widescreen if your TV is a Widescreen and you can also select Full Screen Video if you wish to use Full Screen Mode when playing video files.
Go to display settings, click advanced.
Go to troubleshoot.
Under Hardware Acceleration turn it to the second lowest option.

Connected jbl bar 5.1 to hisense 65 p7 tv using hdmi arc outlet on tv and sound bar unfortunately no sound

  1. When you connect an external device to TV (without ARC) and Sound Bar, connect the HDMI cable (sold separately) from the external device to the TV. Then, connect the external device to the Sound bar using an optical cord (sold separately).
  2. If you want to connect to just the TV, then the HDMI connection is unnecessary.
  3. I myself find it just as good in not using the HDMI and just using the optical cord.

I have a HX32N2176h Hisense 32" LED tv will this TV handle and display HD when connected to a Laptop or Android Box with HDMI Cable?

The Hisense HX32N2176H will display an HD signal of 1366x720 with the HDMI input. (Any resolution above 480 (lines of pixels) is considered HD.) However, this isn't a full-HD (1080) capable TV. See https://www.hificorp.co.za/hisense-32in-81cm-hdr-led-tv-hx32n2176 for the specifications. Click on the Technical Details tab.

I hope this helps.

There might be a setting on your cable box for audio output. Use the cable remote and look in the audio section of the settings menu and select HDMI output. Mine is under Audio Digital Output in the Audio/Video menu.

How to connect Hi-sense plasma television to dell windows 8 laptop? Can Hdmcable be connected if not what are the other options?

Computer HDMI ports don't usually pass the sound from the computer on the cable. You have to use a cable between the PC and the PC audio IN connection on the TV. This is usually a 3.5 mm stereo audio cable.

No sound using HDMI

If you are connecting a computer using a HDMI cable, the audio does not go on the cable. You must use a stereo audio cable to connect the TV to the PC.

Does anyone know how to set up hisense tv hls model to receive sound from macpro laptop?

Hi there,

I seem to have lost you. You can re-connect the chat if you need to, but this is what you really need to make this work correctly.

http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

Connect this to your Mac, then connect an HDMI cable to the port on the adaptor and the other end of the HDMI to your TV. You will then have audio and video from the Mac on the TV, with only one cable.

If you have any questions here, we can continue the discussion here if you wish.

Regards,
BElectric
