Question about Hotpoint Dryers

How do I clear lint from my hotpoint wdud 9640

Lint is getting trapped in the plastic pipe behind the drum. Three enigneer visits during the warranty period, thought the problem was solved. Took the lid off the machine today and the plastic tube visibly has lots of lint inside. How can I open or remove it to clean it out? Engineer took under 20 minutes so I assume this isn't difficult. UPDATE I cleared this by unscrewing and removing the heater apparatus and found that while the engineer had cleared out most of the lint from the plastic vent tube he had left the heater fan full of the stuff. Five minutes with a hoover sorted it. Heater gubbins re-attached and all has been good for two weeks.

SOURCE: Frigidaire dryer, lots of lint getting past screen.

Hello,
Here is a link to an exploded view and parts list for your dryer. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php
If you are certain that the filter is not compromised or damaged and is properly seated into the housing , you may have a problem with the housing itself whereby lint is getting into the blower thru a break in that housing.. I would examine that area for damage.. and make sure when you reinsert the filter, it is seated all the way down.. Hope this helps you... BTW: over time, it is not unusual for lint to build up in the duct since some of that lint is smaller than the filter media and will work its way thru.. If you are getting that degree of lint build up very quickly then you may have a problem as mentioned above..
Regards,
Rick

SOURCE: How do I remove the lint trap holder to clean out the lint inside

The font panel must be removed. This may be done by removing the control console (open upper cabinet doors to find screws behind the console). The screws along the top of the lower front panel are easily accessible. Disconnect the two interlock switches, remove the grounding clip attached to the bulkhead & lift the panel off the two lower clips. Inside the panel is a housing that leads to the exhaust blower. It will be packed with lint that may be hardened like papier mache. Just clean out the mess & reverse the process to replace the parts.

I reset the button on my fisher& payment dryer. It worked for a short while and stopped heating again. What next?

check to see if lint build up is causing your thermal switch to trip. Pull out the lint trap and you'll see 1 Phillips head screw behind where the lint trap normally sits. Remove the screw, and you'll feel the circular plastic piece the lint trap sits in become loose...pull this round piece out of the dryer from the bottom. If there is a lot of lint behind this circular plastic piece, that's probably what's tripping the heat sensor. Vac it out. Gently feel around the circumference of where you removed the piece to see if the fine mesh lint screen has any holes (if it does, it may be blowing lint into your exhaust and eventually clog the vent to the outside). If the mesh is torn, I assume that larger circular piece needs to be replaced at some point in whole or part. From what I can see, the design of the lint filter and trap is ....****. The system allows lint to enter the area where the heat sensor sits.

The short term fix is to vac out the sensor area regularly and that will keep the switch from tripping, if that is your actual problem.
this was answered by someone else a year or so ago on this site thought i'd pass it on.
Hope this works.

My dryer heats up but does not dry clothes. I check ventilation and lint trap, there is no buildup. what could cause it to take forever to dry clothes?

If the drum gets hot to a real degree it has to be a blockage between the drum to where the air exits the home.

They do make a brush designed to go into the area where the lint trap is and be long enough to come out the rear of the unit---A lot of places will come out and professionally clean from trap to vent outlet

A blockage can be dangerous as hundreds of fires happen each year from the lint catching fire in the dryer.

The tube to the outside may seem clear but if blockage anywhere from lint trap to it, that will cause this problem and present a possible fire hazard.

Its not unlike having your vac not pick things up very well...except there is rarely a fire with that.

F @ P DEGX2 lint trap problem

If you are collecting more on the outside of the house means the lint filter has a tear in it and the lint in being pulled through the tear and pushed out the exhaust. It sounds like you need a new filter but this isn't cheap. If you do it your self it will run about $70 if you get a repair man it will cost about $150.

Where does the fluff go when you use the dryer on

The lint should go in the lint trap. If it doesn't go in the lint trap it goes out the exhaust pipe if the lint trap is not installed.

Where is the filter?

Hi,
To find the filter you need to do the following steps. Find your lint trap. Lint traps in washing machines can be in the agitator (the large plastic piece in the center of the tub), at the top of the washer on the rim of the tub, or attached to the washing machine's drainage hose. Pull out the agitator tube to check for the lint trap. Peel any loose lint from the filter. Scrub away lint that doesn't peel off easily with a heavy-duty paper towel or a wet sponge. Feel your way around the top rim of the washing machine's basin. If you locate a trap, pull it straight out of the machine. Peel away loose lint and follow up with a wet sponge or heavy-duty paper towel. Check your machine's drainage hose for an attached lint trap. Remove the trap and peel the top layer of lint off. Rinse the trap in low-pressure, warm water. Reattach to the drainage hose. Check for and remove any lint or debris that may have dropped into the washing machine basin during the cleaning.
Let us know if you want any further clarification.

I want to know how to remove the lint trap (not just the screen but the entire assembly) from a Maytag Performa PYET344AZW front loading electric dryer. The lint screen will not even properly slide back...

Besides drying clothes, dryers also remove lint. This fine, fuzzy material can cause trouble because it blocks dryer lint traps, clogs vents, and fills blowers. Lint can also gather around and in the tracks of the drum rollers, or in and under the pulleys and the drive belt. The result is poor clothes drying or -- sometimes -- no drying. To avoid lint problems, clean out the dryer's lint trap system every time you use the dryer.
To clean the lint screen, remove it from the unit. The screen may be located near or under the door sill, or in the top of the dryer near the control panel. It can usually be removed by pulling it up and out of its housing. Remove the accumulated lint to clear the screen; then replace the screen.
The exhaust vent also collects lint. Vent maintenance involves cleaning the lint from a screen in the dryer's vent exhaust collar and/or at the end of the exhaust vent where it sticks out through a basement window or through an exterior wall. To clean the screen, remove the clamp that holds the vent to the collar, or back out the screws that hold the vent to the collar, or pull the vent straight off an extended collar. Clean the screen thoroughly and replace it in the vent assembly.
To clean the vent itself, use a vent-cleaning brush (available at hardware stores) to pull out any lint deposits. Also check the vent run to make sure that the vent piping or tubing isn't loose at the joints, or -- in the case of flexible plastic venting -- isn't sagging between hanging brackets. Breaks or sags cause undue strain on the dryer's blower system, and can cause drying problems. If the vent pipe or tubing has become clogged with lint, remove the lint by pushing a garden hose or a drain-and-trap auger through the vent to a convenient joint. Disassemble the joint to remove the debris. With this procedure, it isn't necessary to disassemble the entire vent to find the blockage. You can head off problems before they become too serious by providing routine maintenance for your dryer's door gasket, thermostat, timer, and other frequently used parts. Let's discuss how to service these important components in the next section.
