Display screen will need to be replaced, since this is a rather old machine, they may not be able to get new display screens, but you can find them on Ebay. The computer is a multi layered style, power board, CPU, then display screen held in with 16 pins.

SOURCE: Looking for instructions on cleaning and servicing the Saeco Royal

Hi,

When you clean the brewing unit wash it with hot water, do not
use any solvent.

Make sure there are no coffee residues on the two steel filters: the upper filter can be removed by unloosening and turning the plastic pin anticlockwise using the tool supplied.
Dry thoroughly each central unit component, fit the filter again and tighten it properly with the screw .

To do a descaling:
Saeco descaler is recommended; however, you can use any non-toxic and/or non-harmful descaling product for coffee machines, commonly available in retail stores. The used solution is to be disposed of according to the manufacturer’s
instructions and/or regulations in force in the country of use.

Never use vinegar!

Best regards
/Mirran

SOURCE: how to decalcify saeco royal exclusive coffee machine

Hi
Auto descale: To automatically descale your machine, press the scoop button or menu button if you have one, and hold it down until you enter the menu. Use the arrows on the left to scroll down until you come to Descale. Press enter and the machine will enter the mode to descale your machine. The process takes about 45 minutes. You don’t have to do a thing except mix a full water tank with descaling solution and have a container under the steam wand when your start. To start the descaling process, simply turn the steam knob. When the process is over your machine will say "Descale finished". Remove your water tank and rinse it out. Refill it with fresh water. Replace on the machine and start the descaling process over again to rinse your machine. Go back into your menu and scroll up or down 1 to signal descale and enter. Choose "Yes" and push enter so the machine will tell you when you need to descale again.

SOURCE: how to decalcify coffee machine

Hi
Your showing a different machine than a Royal and that one is different, but if yours is a Royal, this is how.

Auto descale: To automatically descale your machine, press the scoop or menu button and hold it down until you enter the menu. Use the arrow buttons to scroll up until you come to Descale. Press enter button and the machine will enter the mode to descale your machine. The process takes about 45 minutes. You don't have to do a thing except mix a full water tank with descaling solution and have a container under the steam wand when your start. If you have a cappuccinonatori on your machine you will need two containers.
Manual descale: To decalcify your boiler, remove your water tank and fill it with hot water (100 to 120 degrees). Open a pack of decalcifier and mix into the water tank. Place the tank back on the machine, then turn the machine on.

  1. If you have a non-rapid steam machine, just open the steam knob and run approximately eight ounces of solution into a spare container. Turn the machine off and let set about 10 to 15 minutes. It is very important that the machine does not remain on to heat the boiler anymore than necessary.
  2. If you have a rapid steam machine, turn on the machine and then push the hot water button. This turns off the rapid steam and allows you to run hot water/solution through the steam wand. Just open the steam valve and run approximately eight ounces of solution into a spare container. Turn the machine off and let set about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Repeat step #2 for your type of machine. Do this until you have used the entire water tank of solution (approximately four to five cycles). Remove the water tank and rinse it with fresh water.
  4. Refill the water tank with fresh water and place it back on the machine.
  5. Repeat step #2 to rinse the machine, only this time use the entire water tank at one time, and there is not need to let it set.
  6. Your machine has been decalcified. You may still have scale in your boiler, but not as much as you had before. To reset your descale light, hold down on the steam button for at least five seconds. You are ready to brew, once your boiler has heated up.

My Saeco Royal coffee machine is displaying 'empty water container' and it is full - what is the problem

Is the floating magnet in the water reservoir floating ? If yes, you will have to check:
1) the micro switch which is located just beside the magnet (open the machine to check it with and ohm-meter) Check it with a small magnet that you have
2) if the micro-switch is OK with a hand-held magnet the floating magnet may be de-magnetized
3) if everything above is OK, the input on the control board is perhaps defective

Machine won't work due to dreg drawer

Check to see if your machine has an "exit chute" or similar area where from the used pucks are ejected. The area might be clogged with used coffee grinds and causing a false reading from the machine.
