TOSHIBA 32A42 WILL NOT TURN ON/OFF WITH REMOTE

Over the last few years my remote would work and not work. The batteries are new. Usually I would unplug it for a little while and my remote would work again. I tried powering it up with a universal remote and the TV remote. No luck. I can turn the tv on from the front panel.
Don't know where to turn.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

SOURCE: 30HF85 TV with CT-877 remote, which doesn't work.

I had the same problem with my remote...over time it slowly stopped working. (sorry for poor terminology) I noticed that one of the battery terminals was corroded and that the metal connecting the battery to the board was completely gone. I simply swapped this out with one from another remote and now its working fine. Seems the only issue is that the battery was not connected.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have Toshiba 32A42 CRT TV that stopped working

This unit has a horizontal/high voltage issue. This is a dangerous circuit to work with so you should have a shop check it for you. Thanks for using fixya.

SOURCE: toshiba 32a42. power light flashing,

usually after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to tube ) becomes weak - then TV won't get ON.. means no picture no sound but LED blinks - in some TVs along with EHT 1 or 2 components like resistor, transistors, etc will also gets deffective - so solution is TV circuit board has to be checked to find whether only EHT is deffective or other components are also deffective - price of EHT will be between Rs.250 (US$ 5) to Rs.600 (US$ 12) - iam service engineer (computers, laptops, printers, etc) - bangalore - domlur - 09986222774 - [email protected] - if you are in bangalore then you can call me for service - i think you are living somewhere in america /australia..... - problem is simple but i don't have any idea about EHT COMPONENT 's price & service charge in your place.......

SOURCE: I have an old Toshiba

This is a protection circuit that prevents the tv from coming on (to stop damage of the components) ....you need to check your voltages off the power supply and make sure they all read well (EX: 24v12v5v etc). The voltages your powersupply produces will be stamped on the board itself. EX: If it says 24v on the p/s board...read for 24v (23.9v is also "ok"). But, if you get something like 10v, then you have found your problem. Also, look for popped capacitors that would make the values lower than need be for the tv to power on properly.

Once you repair the power supply then you may need to replace other components if needed (EX: backlight inverter)! The backlight inverter is what lites the screen for viewing!

I would recommend to repair immedately and stop trying to turn it on over and over...this will futher damage your tv and cost more to repair, in the long-term.

Best of luck!!!

Why does the remote unable to turn tv off and on?

Same thing happened to me... Was ready to purchase a new remote and decided to take remote apart first and see if it could be fixed: In battery compartment, remove small screw. With small flat precision screw driver separate the black from grey part of remote starting with the larger side of remote (do not force open anything!). Then do the same from the other side of the remote, moving slowly (without forcing) towards the middle of the remote, prying open both sides of the remote delicately. Finally, from battery side, push down on battery springs which should allow you to take remote apart completely. Remove small black rubber washer holding motherboard, allowing removal of motherboard completely.
With a dry cloth gently wipe motherboard down. Clean the rest of the remote (NOT motherboard) with warm water and soap. (After a few years, inside remote accumulates sweat and dirt ! Use paper towel to dry inside part of remote first as best as possible. Finish by blow drying thoroughly every part that was washed with soap and water. Wipe down again the motherboard removing all type of humidity and possible greasy layer that may have accumulated through the years. Put remote back together by snapping every part back in place (much easier than taking apart). Don't forget to insert black square part, black rubber washer and little screw in battery compartment. Once this is done, make sure bottom black switch of remote is pushed to desired position (TV for me). Your remote should work properly, on/off button should also work properly. Don't forget TV has 2 setting for On/off switch, one normal the other something like "power saving" which requires user to press on/off button for a few seconds. This definitely worked for me, hope this works for you :)

Ordered a new Toshiba SE-R0177 remote for TV model #15DLV16. New batteries installed. How do I set it up? It did not come with a manual and the original manual no longer exists. Can't find one online...

. Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.

2. Turn on your television set, DVD player or other device that you want to control with the Toshiba remote.

3. Find the "Recall" or "Setup" button on the Toshiba remote control. After you find it, press and hold down that button until the lights on the remote control turn on and remain lit.

4. Point the Toshiba remote at the device you turned on in Step 2 and press the button on the remote for that device.
5. Begin pressing the "Power" button on the Toshiba remote. Continue doing this until you have turned the device off using the Toshiba remote. Once it shuts off, press "Enter" on the Toshiba remote. The remote will then be programmed
OK.

I have owned the model 36A43 since 2004. No problems at first. For the last 2 years the remote (CT-90157) does not control the television at all. tried new batteries no luck. will not turn tv on or off or...

do you have camera? or cell fone with camera? try to point remote control to camera, if the remote control is working the camera see a bliking light from remote. If not, you go to the local store and buy a new one.

If the remote is working, the Tv has remote sensor circuit broken, and need to be repaired.Go to the local repair shop.

Pop the batteries out and use brand new batteries then try the code again. Sometimes its good to let the remote sit for a few hours with no batteries after locking up the codes.
