I have a nikon coolpix p530, its less then a year old. i used it 1 car show. i was going through the pictures one night the battery was at 42% and it shut off and has not come back on since. when i plug it in the green light around the power button comes on for a second, it beeps, then the light shuts off.
Mine did to i wait then it was fine! wow
I take the SD card out and look at photos with my computer. If the battery is very dead it may not charge in the camera. Nikon cameras have a clock that runs when the camera is off. Fully charging it and leaving it alone for a year will most likely discharge the battery over 50%. If you have an external charger I would try that. When you charge in the camera you are right the power light come on and another light flashes. If you have an Electrical Engineer friend you could ask him/her to put a few volts on the battery to kick it back to life. A too deeply discharged battery may not charge in the camera

Hope your under warranty mate and if so hope its not in Australia as they cannot fix this problem. My denon was allegedly fixed twice but has now failed a third time (just out of warranty) and denon have turned their back on me.
SHAME ON YOU DENON.

had a similar issue with my Pentax, it would power on and power back off. Tried playing with it for a while and it never recovered. Chances are its time to replace it. These new electronics are jam packed with lots of mini moving parts and are prone to excessive wear over time. they're are no servicable parts inside them unfortunately. I would try ebay for a reasonable replacement camera.
SOURCE: Power light shuts off after only 3 seconds
First remove power from the computer before attempting to remove any internal device.Remove the battery the memory and the power supply.Press the power button and hold for twenty seconds.Once done replace the removed items and try again. If no go try removing the memory only if your computer beeps then you have bad memory, try one stick at a time.Failing this *********** board is bad.
Good Luck
