I have not used my machine PFAF 875 hobbymatic in over 10 years. It has been in storage. No repairmen around my area. How can I ensure that it is ready to sew? It is running but it is slow

Hello, Angie -

First, give your sewinig machine a thorough cleaning and oiling (light touch of oil in the hook raceway, only), following instructions in your PFAF 875 Hobbymatic user's manual.

If you do not have the manual, you can find it here to download:
http://www.pfaff.com/SiteMedia/PFAFF/Products/Machines/Support-manuals/Pfaff_874_875_876_HobbyMATIC_Extra-manual-EN-DE-FR-IT.PDF

If the machine still seems to run slowly, then I suggest you look for a nearby business which sells Pfaff machines and ask where you can have your machine serviced.

If there is no business in your area which sells Pfaff machines, perhaps you can find a generic sewing machine repair business near you.

If you have not contacted the Pfaff company regarding service for your machine, this is the link to the Pfaff Machine Support page:
http://www.pfaff.com/Support-and-Updates/Support

Best wishes.

Testimonial: "Very helpful as well as prompt!!!! I am beyond pleased with the fast response as well as the additional information that was given to me!!!! Thank you Jean!!!!!!"

SOURCE: Sewing machine struggling to run or sewing slowly with no load

sounds like it needs oiled.
Clean thoroughly in the hook and bobbin case area and oil 1-2 drop is all.
Oiling instructions:
You never need a diagram to oil a sewing machine. Turn the hand wheel and look for every area that metal touches metal. 1-2 drops (more Is Not better) of oil everywhere metal rubs metal, use a flashlight and look and oil look and oil until every spot is oiled.

SOURCE: My Mom's White machine is

(1) Check the needle or replace with a new one. A needle has a groove in one side of it and that is the side that the thread enters the needle. Some thread from the side and some from the front.
(2) Before sewing, manually turn the wheel to make the needle goes down while holding the needle thread with your left hand. When the bottom thread pulls up, pull both threads toward the back of the machine before sewing.
(3) Make sure that the needle si the correct needle for the machine and that it is not too short.
(4) Make sure your pressure foot has been lowered. Sounds silly, but if you lift is high it might just look like it is engaged.
(5) Try it on two ply fabric first and try both a straight stitch and a zig zag and see if you have problems with either.
(6) Make sure your thread is really machine thread and not hand sewing thread.
(7) Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding off the bobbin spool in the right direction.
(8) Anything other than these is probably a tension problem or a bobbin timing problem.

SOURCE: Last year I changed the machine engine (PfaFF 1222

If the machine did sew fast the the replacement motor, then the problem might be that the machine is getting gummed up somewhere. Pull off the top cover, remove the 5 screws from the bottom of the base plate, (4 large screws, 1 small screw), remove the base plate remove the 1 screw from the bottom of the free arm cover. Now you can see most of the moving parts. Spray a little WD 40 on all the areas that you see metal to metal rubbing together, both on the bottom side of the machine and the top side. Don't flood the machine and stay away from the motor area. Plug the machine in, lay it on it's back and run it full speed, or at least till it runs full speed. After you free it up, blow out the machine with compressed air, and reoil with tri flow all the areas again. Run the machine again, and you've started your own tail gate repair shop.

SOURCE: why is the motor of my sears kenmore sewing

it could be different things
have you checked to make sure the plug is correctly in the machine
one time I was sewing on my necchi electronic machine & it for some reason was going slow like you mentioned & so I started checking different thing & found the cord to the foot pedal was laying in side the foot pedal & it couldn't go any faster untill I moved the cord out of the way
it could also be the motor
& also the power cord & foot pedal
it's possible it needs to be serviced since it's been sitting up so long & since it's sewing at a snails pace

I'm trying to find needles for my Pfaff Hobbymatic 875. Haven't had any luck. Do you know where to buy them? Thanks.

The Pfaff Hobbymatic Extra 875 uses standard 15x1 sewing machine needles. The needle you need will depend on the fabric and thread. You'll use a thicker needle for denim than for a lightweight knit. See https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/pfaff-875-serger-machine-parts.aspx?index=14 for a wide selection of different in stock needles.

I hope this helps.

My pfaff hobbymatic 875 is skipping thread on the bobbin side

Be sure to use a brand new needle. If the needle is bent or damaged, it will frequently skip stitches. Also, if you are using the incorrect needle for the fabric & thread you are using, it will skip stitches, ie a ball point needle on woven fabric.

How to I change the needle position to move a mm to the right on a pfaff hobbymatic 875?

You might try this web site:

Pfaff hobbymatic extra 874 875 876 Instruction Owners manual

The other thing you can do is measure the distance from the needle that you need for your seam allowance and place a guide there, ie a strip of painter's tape, that will be a guide for your fabric edge.

A merritt sewing motor controller compatible with a Pfaff hobbymatic 807?

I wouldn't use a pedal from another machine. WHile they may do the same thing, the voltages that flow through them can be very different. Get on EBay and search for a used pedal for the right machine.

PFAFF hobbymatic 935 bottom-thread keeps breaking. It worked before but now it's not working

The Pfaff hobbymatic 935 was a mid to late 80's production machine (proudly made in West Germany, LOL) and was a transition between the older "oil me or I die" style of machine and the more modern "maintenance free" machines. Only one part of the machine needs to be oiled from time to time, the track around the bobbin. One drop of oil should keep her from snagging and breaking. If that doesn't do it for you try a newer bobbin thread as old thread can become weak sitting on the bobbin.
Hope this helps!
