When I used it this morning, the motor bounced along for a second or two then stopped. I unplugged it, took of the motor shroud and spun the flywheel it is free and loose. I plugged it back in and nothing... the light on the display are all zeros. Is the motor shot? Is it worth hunting for a replacement motor?

Sounds like it is overheating, you have to disassemble the unit and find why it might be overheating

Take the drive motor off and blow out dust, chips, wire pieces, etc. and then rinse out with contact cleaner, blow dry, re-install. Had to do this every so often with mine. Hope that helps.

Testimonial: "We have had this problem with a number of PCs at different clients and the only way it was fixed permanently was when HP eventually replaced the motherboards on the affected PCs. So the idea it is a hardware issue is 100% correct. From [email protected] in Adelaide, South Australia"

SOURCE: new free spirit treadmill - L5 code what does it mean?
Yeah - the sensor is the problem... It is magnetic... You can find it next to the wheel on the belt - It is fairly small.... There is a metal disc in the wheell on the belt that is a magnet.. As it passes by the sensor - the sensor registers the magnet and can simply calculate speed based on the frequency of the passes... Sometimes the sensor slides too far back and ergo can`t register the magnet passing by - Then you get the L5 error...
