My cartier wrist watch stops working after I take it off for some minutes, NOT DAYS what could be the problem

Since the watch has a quartz movement, no winding is needed.

If your watch has stopped, return it to Cartier to have it replaced.

Automatic watches will stop running if not worn for a few days.

Did you leave the watch off for more than 2 -3 days?.

If you did, then it can be restarted by either winding it using the crown wheel (may not be possible) or by holding the watch level and swinging it gently from side to side for a few minutes. (There is a weight inside which rotates with the motion of the wearer to wind it up- so don't swing it very rapidly).

If this does not work, then it may be that you have to take it to a dealer to have it examined.

Michael DeVito---PLEASE STOP telling people to take their Cartier to a "watch repair shop" !! If they do that instead of taking it to a Cartier shop, they will destroy the value of the watch. Once it is opened by a non-Cartier shop, Cartier will NOT stand behind it, won't even touch it and they can tell if it's been opened by someone non-Cartier trained. A 'regular' watch opening tool will damage a Cartier. And then pop goes the weasel, the watch is now worthless. Yes, they will destroy a fake that comes in their shop, and that is their right to do so; it protects the value of all those folks who have REAL Cartiers and paid big money for them. I'm sure you mean to help, but please, please stop saying "take it to a watch repair shop; you are advising these people to ruin their very valuable watches ! Anyone who has a Cartier can 'Google' Cartier website, click on U.S., then find a store near you & call them to discuss your watch. They'll be happy to help. A tune-up for your Cartier costs roughly $65.00 in a Cartier boutique, you should do that if you've bought a used one. No, I don't work for Cartier, but I own one and despise that so much bad information is out here about these watches. A genuine Cartier is not just an investment but a responsibility. Pull the crown of the analog/date Cartier watch and rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise until you see the date advance in the display window at about 1 a.m.

2 Use the quick date set method by rotating the crown counterclockwise after reaching 1 a.m. until the hands reach 7:30 p.m. Then again rotate the crown clockwise back to 1 a.m. Repeat the procedure until the correct date is displayed.

3 Adjust the date forward or backward 12 hours if your Cartier watch changes the date at the noon hour.

If your watch is automatic, then it is self winding and should start if you gently shake it from side to side a few minutes.

Automatic watches do thrive on being worn every day and if left unused will stop after a few days.

If it is a quartz watch, then take it back to the vendor and ask them to fix it.

The only way I know of finding this out is to take it to a Cartier dealer and let them examine it.

I was told by one jeweler I took an forgery of an expensive watch that it is common practice to destroy any forgeries, so unless you are prepared to loose the watch (is it working OK?), then it might be a risky option.

If you bought it cheaply, then is unlikely that it is genuine (I picked up my forgery in a jumble sale rubbish heap).

pull out the crown one click and press the bottom chronograph button. If That does not work you will have to send it in for service to cartier.
