SOURCE: Grinding during the spin cycle

To check for a bad bearing, open the door, pull back the door seal then grab the plastic outer tub with one hand and the inner basket with the other hand. If you can lift on the basket and wiggle up and down, the tub bearing is bad. If OK, the noise may be coming from the pump. The pump impeller may have come loose and is rubbing on the pump housing.
To check impeller, remove the bottom access panel. There you will find a pump filter that you can unscrew and remove debris. UNSCREW AND DRAIN SLOWLY as there will be lots of water to catch..
Look inside the small hole of the pump and check impeller, it should be set back against the motor.

If bearing, check limited warranty.. bearing may still be covered...

Regards,

Richard

SOURCE: Can you buy a frigidaire stackable washer separately?

Have you had a qualified service man look at your machine? I would think that the burned rubber smell would direct you to examine the belt (found in the very bottom after removal of front cover).
If it is the belt it is a very easy fix on this machine. The not draining part wouldn't be related to the belt the pump that does the draining is driven by its own electric motor and is easily visible when the front cover is off. Its located on the bottom left side. If a sock or other small item manages to get over the side of the basket it always ends up jamming the pump.
You would have to take the pump apart to retrieve the item and restore pump function
Good Luck

SOURCE: my gas dryer has no heat

long dry times are a venting problem. if no heat at all it could be your ignitor, a thermal fuse, or the secondary gas coils, all are replaceable and reasanoblyy cheap between 30-90 dollars usually so its up to u it u want to repair it.. if long dry times i would unplug the venting from the rear and dry a load if it heats faster than u know ur venting is clogged and u might wanna clean ur ducting and replace that venting tube. also u can go outside while running and see or feel if air is being pushed out while its running hope this helps let me know how it goes

I am thinking of buying a used Roper washer and dryer, model # RAX4232JQO and YREX4634JQO, respectively. Anybody know the year of the make? Are they good appliances? Thanks

Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts. This is a fairly reliable washer and (from an appliance repairman's perspective) one of the easiest washers to troubleshoot and repair (if required). Nearly all the parts are inexpensive as well. The gearcase (transmission) is the most expensive part in the unit (about $150) and even it is simple to replace by the average do-it-yourselfer.

The dryer, if maintained properly, is also very reliable and an ease to work on. The heating circuits are the most common fail items and average about $100 to replace (all parts combined). This is also a simple appliance to work on from a repairman's point of view.

Make sure it is installed correctly, by using semi-rigid exhaust vent ducting. The following link can give you some helpful advice on how to maintain your dryer to prevent premature failure of components:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3578821-dryer_takes_too_long_to_dry

The number one cause of any dryer heat related problems is caused by poorly installed, excessively long, kinked, or clogged exhaust vent ducting. I can't express that enough. Failure to maintain a dryer by cleaning it periodically can also create a fire hazard.

The age of the appliance is determined by the SERIAL NUMBER. The following link explains how to determine the YEAR and WEEK of manufacture:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3576437-determining_the_age_of_your_whirlpool_ap

If the units are in fairly decent shape, I would seriously consider purchasing them. Even the older Whirlpool manufactured washer and dryers still use the the same parts as the newer models today. So, age isn't necessarily a factor.

If you have any questions, or need future advice (if you experience any problems), please let me know. I hope this helps you.

My Whirlpool Duet shrinks my clothes.

If you did not have good success with the unit - I would advise against getting another one.
