I have a Lanier 5010 cg printer copier fax machine and after booting it keeps saying system error 04 lt I do not have an owners manual and was wondering what it meant and how to fix it

The scanner part of the printer is messed up. HP says "LSU error: #04-001. Please turn off then on." LSU = Laser Scanning Unit.

1) Faxes won't print.

Try this first....
Press <MENU> then <*> <#> on the keypad
Press <UP ARROW> and see "UTILITIES RESET SYSTEM"
Press <CHECK MARK> and see RESET SYSTEM
Press <DOWN ARROW> and see (FAX NVRAM)
Press <CHECK MARK> should reset the fax memory.

Try this second....
Press <MENU> then <*> <#> on the keypad and see "SERIAL NUMBER"
Press <UP ARROW> and see "UTILITIES RESET SYSTEM"
Press <CHECK MARK> and see RESET SYSTEM
Press <DOWN ARROW> <DOWN ARROW> <DOWN ARROW> and see (ERASE FFS)
Press <CHECK MARK> should reformat the fax memory.
It will reboot. Occasionally says the FAX NVRAM is bad
when performing the boot-up self-test and corrects the problem.

2) PC LIFE WARNING message
After replacing your photo conductor kit you need to reset the "PC LIFE WARNING" message. With the front toner door open press and hold the red <STOP> until you see the "RESETTING PC COUNTER" message

On a Canon machine 5010 is a scanner error, stuck, light burned out, etc.

5010 is a scanner error that you can get if the scanner lock is locked, and also if you put a heavy book on the glass and stop the scanner. Canon only sells the scan assembly as a whole unit around $150.00

What is the error code? Many of the codes refer to a general electrical problem, and often turning the machine off, resetting the circuit board connectors and harnesses and memory sticks, and turning the machine back on will clear the error code and allow the machine to boot up normally.

I got the error code 5010 today (scanner lock switch). I called Canon. The printer's electrical circuitry (brain) needs to be refreshed. This is similar to wireless routers and other devices. They directed me as follows: 1. power OFF the printer 2. Unplug the printer's power cord from the electrical source. 3. Wait AT LEAST 1 minute - no less than 1 minute. 4. After 1 minute, plug-in the printer to the electrical source. Turn on the printer - wait for it to warm up as usual and it should be ok. Mine worked perfectly after the above steps. - Hope this helps.
