Black particles coming out of the room air conditioner

I noticed this year that a room air conditioner is blowing out black particles into the room . I looked inside -- as much as I could -- and noticed there were many black particles inside the guts of the unit. Question is: What is it and How do you clean it? Is this dangerous? Is it mold? Who cleans this?

Thanks. Nikolas

Dirt, dust, or mold. could also be the tubing insulation flaking off. either way, open it up and clean it out. the dirt, dust, and flaking insulation can restrict air flow through the coils and cause the ac to not function properly. if it is mold, it's can cause sickness (legionaire's disease). do not use chemicals on the coils. it might be best to replace the ac alltogether. to prevent mold: when installing the ac, make sure the unit is slightly tipped towards the outside. any condensation that collects on the coils will drain out. failure to do so will result in water pooling inside, and this can cause mold.

Heater smell when AC comes on...

The fan that blows the air blows through the heater coils before it blows through the A/C.As long as the heater doesn't come on, there is not much that can be done. ZCooking the attic room will be a problem because it is the heat rises thing, and on top(literally) of it all, the roof is radiating heat.

Ecoquest Flair Air Purifier leaves black residue on walls and...

Hi there,

The black residue is what is in your air. The reason for it to cling to the walls is the Ionization process that the machine creates. The ionization is to create a clean breathing space, free from contaminants. All particles floating in the air will be negatively charged and cling to each other or to objects in the room (like walls) that are positively charged.

If you cook, there is some smoke created, or when you burn candles. These greasy particles will stick to the wall or to surfaces. Cleaning them up regularly might help. You can also try another product from EcoQuest called EcoH which is based on enzymes and cut through that grime easily. That might take the black stuff off the walls.
