Looks like you will have to call a technician.
It's a 'cook top lock out error.'

SOURCE: F40 code

It worked for me.  When the power is off, there is no electricity being used, thus no charge.

SOURCE: Got F40 error code self-cleaning my 790.9642 Kenmore range

try this, after several calls I finally found out what the code meant. code meant. Power supply issues, not necessarily with your power supply but with the appliance2_bing.gif itself. Of course they want to send a technician for $65.00, which may be worth the headache. All someone told me was to turn off the power braker for 2 hours and try again. Yeah right, after 2 hours of heating your house and paying the electric bill, but when breaker is off there will not be any electric used. code f40,

SOURCE: 40494 / 40495 / 40499 Electric Single Oven: have a kenmore self cleaning electric range it was...

The F9 code indicates there is a problem with the door lock.

Try disconnecting the power to the range for 10 seconds and reconnecting. Open the oven door and hold the door switch plunger in while you try these things. Put the control into clean for 5 minutes then cancel clean. You must hold the door switch plunger in for the 5 minutes.

Try canceling the clean cycle without putting the control into clean.

Kenmore fault codes

it is a cooktop lockout error and usually occurs after or during the oven self clean process. If this is the case then let the oven cool down after self clean and see if it goes away. Most likely the wiring harness containing the signals from sensor to the control module is damaged. If it persists you will need to get a technician in.

Kenmore self cleaning electric range issue with F10 error during self cleaning mode

You most likely have a failed oven sensor or the control / clock has failed. Self clean mode lets the oven get extremely hot and sometimes causes electronics to fail.

How do I fix an F40 code on a kenmore elite rlectric range model #790.46709603

The "F40" fault code indicates a Cooktop Lockout error. There is a "Lockout" control board that locks out the cooktop from operating whenever the "Clean" cycle is used. It's not normal to display "F40" unless there is a "Lockout" or an "EOC" (electronic oven control) failure. It may need one or the other or both boards replaced. If the cooktop will operate after the range has cooled and unlocked then it may need the EOC and not the Lockout board. If you can ignore the beeping and the F40 and the range will heat up again in the clean cycle and complete the clean cycle then it could have a faulty Lockout board. Here a link to a YouTube video with the instructions on how to access and replace the EOC.

Here is the lockout board if you need to order it.
Here is the EOC board if you should need it also.

All parts come with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.
