SOURCE: regulator ic of sony tv kv-g21c1

I am not familiar with the particular model of Sony TV that you have. I can answer genericaly:

There are a number of voltage regulators typicaly used on TV sets. These are usualy IC devices, or a complete descrete circuit. The purpose of these are to regulate voltages that are used to operate various circuits. Most sets can typicaly have anywhere from about five to maybe even a dozen or more throughout the set, depending on the sophistication of the model.

The regulators, like any part in the set can fail with age and use. Sometimes they are damaged from other components failing, or when a regulator fails, it can damage the circuit areas that it is suppying. When the set is being service, the tech must check for other failed parts.

No sound

Hi,

connect a DVD player to the TV. If you still do not have sound, connect a headset to the TV. If there is no sound coming from the headset, it means your TV is have a defective sound ic.

When the sound ic is defective, you cannt hear any sound from the TV because the sound ic is responsible for bring out sound through the speaker.

Let me have a feedback on this issue please.

Yours sincerely.

No Display, no sound- not working, showing dead. But input Power is ok. Picture tube filamment not getting power. model sony KV-2192M3

Hello
Check the input fuse first. If it is blown, there will be some short inside the power regulator circuit. Usually Sony sets uses STR regulated power supply. You can see this STR, and Ic, screwed onto a heatsink. Replace it with a same type and number. Before replacing the STR, check the diodes used in that section for damage, mainlu zener diodes. They might get shorted along the blowing of the STR. Check that section throughly before resoldering the new STR.
If any further assistance you needs, get me through Fixya. Ok.

Great picture, no audio. no audio on audio out using computer speakers either. no audio period, dvd, games, etc. my brother tried to plug in some reguler speakers to the audio out, they were 8 ohm.

Hi,

The problem you are experiencing with your TV is as a result of a bad sound output IC(integrated circuit),the sound IC generates and transmits all forms of sound produced by the TV,since its bad no form of sound can be produced from the TV.

The solution is to replace the sound IC of your TV,it is normally located beside the screen IC,depending on your brand of television,it can be purchased from any electronic part shop close to you .

Thanks and take care..

Sounds like you have bad solder connections on the 5 and 9 volt regulators on the power board. They should be marked 7805, 7809, and possibly 7812. The 78 on these IC's mark that they are positive regulators and the other 2 numbers signify what voltage they are. Very common problem.

Tv won't stay

Most likly started out as a bad solder connection, but now mosy likly grew into whats called a bad regulator IC. Sorry you didnt have the set looked at in the past when it would have most likly cost you hafe of what it will now. sorry to tell you, the regulator IC is most of the time what causes this problem or symptom.
