My 8 year old Whirlpool Calypso washer started whining continuously at medium pitch and fairly loudly during agitation in the wash cycle. This noise is much less evident during the spin cycle or rinse cycle when there is little agitator back and forth type motion. Diagnostics look O.K. but nutation test usually produces a particularly loud clunk sound. Please advise. Thanks.

Sorry to say but they are right. The Calypso washer was a horible design given to whirlpool from maytag. I would suggest you go buy new machine. Buy someting that looks simple and easy to use. The more complicated the unit the more problems you will have down the road.
The agitators are a pop-on fit. Make sure that the agitator is firmly seated on the shaft. Lift it up and if it moves easily adjust it to the splines on the shaft and press it back into place.
check the motor bushes, and also check for bearings in drum you can check this by lifting the inner drum up and down if you feel a knocking noise then this will be the bearings have worn.
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. for detailed help with diagrams and step by step instructions click the linkhttp://www.applianceaid.com/washerspinnoise.html
The inside of your agitator became worn, and possible strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. The loud noise mustly occurs during the spin cycle. If you hear this loud noise your load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it.
How deep do you want to get into this?It sounds like the wash pump motor bearings that are worn. You can pull the unit out flip it over and wd40 the bearings in the motor or you can replace the bearings.Try to lube them first.
A loud high pitch whine while running the dishwasher means that there is something caught in the chopper assembly. To get to the chopper assembly you need to take the racks out and take the pump apart from the inside of the dishwasher. The chopper assembly looks like a metal grate with holes in it. And it might not even be stuck in the grate but somewhere in the pump area due to the water being pumped out, so the best idea is to take the whole thing apart and clean everywhere. However I do not recommend doing this unless you are completely certain you will remember where the screws and gaskets go, otherwise you risk damaging your pump or house from a leak or improper installation. You have been warned.
