ONKYO tx-sr605 HDMI CHANNEL 2 INTERMITTENTLY SWITCHES TO STANDBY

I have my Onkyo hdmi channel 2 using sonos as source and connected to house speakers. It seemed to be no problem for a couple weeks. Now it will frequently suddenly shift into standby. If I reset it may resume playing for minites or hours and then suddenly go to standywith blinking red.
Thanks alot for any help.

The suggestion from Fixya consultant that there might be a mismatch of speaker ohms and receiver tipped me of to check the niles speaker selection box and sure enoufg tne protection switch was off. In playing 2 or more combinations of 4ohm speakers the protection button on speaker selectionbox must be on.

As more pairs of speakers are parallel connected to a rec/amp, the overall impedance becomes lower. ex, if 2 pairs of 4-ohm speakers in parallel becomes 2 ohms and so on with multiple pairs of speakers. Most multiple speaker switches such as the Niles ss-4/ss-6

corrects this problkem to assure a safe operatring load.

Thanks to the Fixya consultant tip that there may be an impedance mismatch of speaker ohms to rec/amp ohms I checked the multiple speaker selection box and sure enough the protection button had been accidently swithed off which was creating the problem.

    Amp/Rec Impedance Load

As more pairs of speakers are parallel connected to Rec/Amp the overall system impedance becomes lower. Ex, 2 pairs of 8 ohm spk connected in parallel, impedance will be 4 ohms; 2 pairs of 4-ohm spk connected in parallel become 2 ohms, and so on. The

Niles SS-4/SS-6 speaker selection boxes includes circuitry that assures a proper load with all speakers playing simultaneously WHEN TURNED ON. Thanks again.

Check the Ohm value (4, 8, 16...) on the speaker and on the ONKYO too.
If not the same that is the (big) problem!

My TX-SR605 has two HDMI In slots. I want to add a third HDMI device - a ROKU box. Please advise how best to do this. Thanks.

Use an HDMI switcher like this. Then you can select any of the three inputs and run it to the receiver. Simply leave the receiver on that input and use the switcher for source selection.

Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo tx-sr605 via hdmi

Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.

First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo

On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES

Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2

This may be your issue.

Next step would be to verify your television input settings.

Nice receiver!

Best of luck!

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

Onkyo tx-SR605 - how do I use as a processor and

IF and only if, your receiver has connections labeled as "pre-out" can it be connected to an external amplifier.

If it does, then you connect from the left and right channels from the receiver, to the left and right channel on the amplifier.

Zone 2 speakers only work with the tuner - no sound comes out when switched to DVD, Cable/SAT, ect. All of my other devices (DVD player, Satellite Receiver, ect.) run through the receiver. How do I get...

hi,

zone 2 will only work with analog sources so if your dvd, cable and other devices are connected via HDMI, that alone won't work. What you need to do is hook up RCA (red and white) cables from the dvd player to dvd in of the receiver and same thing for your satellite box (and other sources.) no need to change any setting on the receiver. This way, the HDMI will take care of your main room speakers and the RCA will feed your zone 2 speakers.

Hope this helps.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

Brand new Onkyo Tx-sr605 won't leave stand by

If the unit will not leave standby I would remove all power, disconnect *all* connections at the back, reconnect to a power source and try powering on. This will eliminate any connection causing the Onkyo to stay in standby due to a short. If it still will not enter power-on mode, you may want to look at the power source (is it properly grounded?), but beyond that the unit probably needs to go back.
