This is caused by exposed bare metal, food partical buildup or the magnetron itself, clean interior with warm soapy water until spotless and inspect inside cavity, if okay! test run with a cup of water.
It could be the mag tube, get warm soapy water and clean until spotless, now look for any exposed metal in the interior of the microwave oven, sometimes the enamel paint will peel off exposing unwanted metal, if everything checks okay you may end up having the same part replaced again.
It should not pose a hazard as far as operation goes.. only if it becomes a sanitary issue..
Clean the interior per mfg suggestions.. and you may have to clean it more often now that you have this issue.
Microwaves cannot travel through metal.. you can actually use small pieces of foil (flat pieces) in most microwaves to shield items.. without any issues.
call kitchenaid and complain they might fix it under warranty or replace the unit,, or possibly heard of this and have a fix i persoonally never heard about it good luck mate
some of the front(vent) covers have a sliding hook I think you need to push it to the left. You should be able to access the bulb when you get that off.
On the electronic control board, the circuit trace will open like a fuse if the light bulb power becomes shorted. If you or someone knows how to use a soldering iron, this can be repaired. 1. Remove the top grille. (Two screws on top) 2. Remove screw above button panel. Push up on panel to remove. 3. Remove circuit board from panel. Look on reverse side for a burned, open circuit trace. 4. Repair circuit trace everything should work again....
From my research, this sounds like a fairly new model. Consult your user's manual to see if this is a user, or common issue. If nothing is descibed then I would seek possible warranty service, or dealer replacement
