Printer cycles on and off continuously

Error message says
"To avoid damage use ON and OFF button to shut down the printer. Do not use a power switch or wall switch to shut it down."

We press the ON button to shut it down. That works. Then, we press the ON button to turn it back on and it cycles on and off again. We tried sending a print file to it, but that did not work.

PRINTER SHOWING THE MESSAGE TO AVOID DAMAGE USE THE ON BUTTON TO SHUT DOWN DO NOT USE POWER STRIP OR WALL SWITCH TO SHUT DOWN

Your question is kind of confusing. From what I get is that your printer is saying to not shut it down by unplugging it or breaker switch? If that's the case simply hold the power button till it shuts down (if it doesn't shut off after 5 seconds release and it should shut down).

If the message is saying do not shut it down at all, try and wait it out. It could be loading drivers or saving data etc etc.

Another problem it that you could have print jobs waiting and shutting down could corrupt data. Try and look at the bottom right of your computer screen and find a printer icon. From there you should be able to right click and disable pending print jobs etc etc.

Hope This helps!

My Dell 1720 copies tells me it has stopped because the photoconductor kit has stopped working. I just replaced everything and keep getting the same error.

If the drum cartridge has not been replaced, it must be replaced before resetting the counter to avoid damaging the printer.
  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Open the front door.
  3. With the front door open, hold down the Continue button while powering on the printer.
  4. Keep holding continue until all lights start flashing then release the button.
  5. Once only the Error light is on, close the front door.
  6. At this point Continue, Ready/Data, Toner Low, and Load Paper should all be lit.
If the previous set of steps did not go as described then do not continue. Please complete the previous set of steps again.
  1. Wait for the printer to make a sound as though it is about to print something. (This may take a minute.)
  2. Press Cancel 4 times SLOWLY (1 second between presses) to cycle through lights until ONLY the Toner Low light is on. (It may take more than 4 presses.)
  3. Press and hold Continue until all the lights cycle through and go back to Toner Low
  4. Cycle power on the printer.
  5. Press and release the Continue button to print out the settings page. Under Cartridge Information it should read Photoconductor: 0K

Reset the printer by following steps
1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

Printer will not start

This is likely a hardware problem. However you can try a sem-full reset to factory default conditions by 1. unplugging the power cord while the printer is powered on and 2. press and hold the OK and Cancel buttons while plugging in the power cord. If this this does not clear the error you probably have a hardware issue. On my printer, after going through a diagnostic procedure with the HP Chat Tech and concluding a hardware issue I did a bit more research and then took the printer apart. It turns out that a fairly common problem is for the large white gear on the left side of the printer that drives the ink pump comes off the shaft. I reassembled it to the shaft and put the printer back together. When I plugged in the power cord the printer started and did about a 5 minute maintenance procedure and now works fine.

When I turn on my printer I get the message Error Press OK

You have to refit the micropump gear, this is happening because this gear should be out of its place. It's on the left side of your printer. I.ve just solved the same problem.
