Laptop can not connect to router

When my laptop trys to connect to my wireless n router is says it is "acquiring network address". But is never does acquire one. When I look at the details over on the left side of the screen (running XP) it also says acquiring network address, on the next line down it says "firewalled". It is also showing IP address as 0.0.0.0. and same with subnet.

Hi,

If you care to try, manually enter IP settings in your laptop as follows:
IP Address - 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1
DNS - whatever your ISP is using

In your Internet Explorer >
Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN settings button, check "Automatically detect settings", OK, Advance tab, check Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Pls try this following below and just cool down and read through,

Physical causes and What to Do...
  • Network card could be faulty or malfunctioning, or the port on the card itself. Make sure lights show on the card and if they don't, replace with another one that works.
  • Check that your router or the server is turned on so that the laptop can acquire a valid IP address.
  • Double check to make sure the wireless card on the laptop is turned on. Do not assume it is on by default, do it yourself.

Logical or Software causes and solutions

Many of us are online buyers. Items sold on the internet, especially used items, are not in their default settings. Previous owners do not always reset them before sale, and this causes a lot of issues and unwanted beheaviours. Below are some of the common settings found on Routers:
  • ISP user name and password. If you want to connect to the internet check with your ISP to get your own User name and password, if not ignore this step.
  • Looking at the security options, make sure:
    • MAC address Filtering is not enable. If it is, remove all the MAC addresses on the MAC address table, and enter your Laptop's network card MAC address. With MAC Filtering On, do not forget to enter the MAC addresses of all you wireless devices on to its table.
    • Wireless key settings. Disable the wireless key settings and configure it to meet your requirements.

  • A Laptop to Laptop connection, please make sure the wireless settings on both laptops are the same.
  • Inconsistent wireless Keys. The key on the laptop has to match the one configured on the router.
  • Drivers out of date, update your wireless adapter drivers or your router firmware by checking the manufacturer web site.
  • Wireless not enable on the router. If wireless is not enable on the router, there is no Wi-Fi signal at all. some Router would have wireless turned off by default, and it is the administrator decision to use it or not.
  • DHCP Server misconfiguration. Make sure the DHCP (Dynamic Hosts Configuration) server is properly configured:
    • Enough IP address lease for your network devices
    • The server itself is not down

  • Some simple troubleshooting methods are:
    • Repair the connection. On Windows, click start - Control panel and then Network connections; chose the right connection icon, right then select repair. Windows will, temporarily, disable and re-enable your network adapter to attempt a connection.
    • Reset the IP stack. Click start then Run. At the command prompt type "command" or cmd for short, you are then presented with the command prompt window. Type "netsh int ip reset resetlog", and then restart your Laptop. This applies to desktop computers as well.
    • Reset the router to its factory default. Most routers we use at home are fitted with a reset button, by pressing and hold it for few seconds will bring the router to its factory default. This method solves a lot of the issues mentioned earlier, in one go.

I can not connect to my netgear wgr614v6 with my hp netbook. I can connect with my other laptop and the netbook has been connected before. It keeps saying "acquiring Address"

If you're trying to connect wirelessly, and it says "acquiring address" and never connects, it's most likely because your wireless network has an encryption key enabled, and the encryption key on your laptop/netbook doesn't match. You should disconnect from your home wireless network, and then try to re-connect to it. Verify that you're using the correct wireless key to connect. If that still doesn't work, you should reset your router to factory defaults so that there's no wireless key required to connect - and then try again. If you want to put the wireless key back, you can run the CD or connect to the router using the web interface and configure it again.

Cannot aquire ip address from wireless router

Hi, If your newer usb wireless adaptor does not have the same settings as your router this is the problem you have. First make sure you have installed the cd software that came with the usb adaptor without it plugged in. After that is complete make sure the wireless adaptor is seen by the computer it is attached to. Then you need to open the settings of the usb adaptor and set it up same as your router's settings. This includes the WEP security password if you use it. Good Luck.

    Acquiring network address

From the PC you are trying to connect to your wireless router LAN there are two possible causes of these problem.

    1. No DHCP Server Available.
    2. You are using MAC Filters and the MAC is not defined in the router configuration.

Please verify this and you can easily get through it.

DHCP can be configured over your wireless router also incase you don't have DHCP Servers in your LAN / WAN. Other wise you can go for manual IP addresses.

then it seems thatb the wireless security key for your network is incorrect, make sure if you are entering the key correctly..
    or else..
check if you are able to go online with the router wired first, if yes, then the w/ls settings has to be checked..open your w/ls network connection, remove your preferred wireless network and then try to reconnect again and check.. if you are not able to gon online wired with the router, disconnect power cables from modem- router , wait for 10 sec, and reconnect it , wait till all the lights come up and then reconnect, check if you are able to go online if not your router has to be reconfigured,,

plz check and revert back in case of any issues

Cannot connect wirelessly, but can through my network cable

After a few tries and re starts it may connect itself, but if not go to Start>Run, then type 'ipconfig /flushdns'. Try connecting again, but ensure your wireless card is set to obtain IP address automatically and you have enabled wireless connection and DHCP in your routers menu. Hope this helps
