1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the
computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power cord.
4. Remove the battery pack by following these steps:
a. Turn the computer upside down with the front panel
toward you.
b. Slide and hold the battery release latch 1 to the left. (The
front edge of the battery pack disengages from the
computer.)
c. Lift the front edge of the battery pack 2 and swing it
back.
d. Remove the battery pack.
5. Remove the RTC battery from the socket on the system
board.
6. Wait approximately 5 minutes.
7. Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.
8. Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any
battery packs at this time.
9. Turn on the computer.
All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared.

There are 2 ways you can reset your bios.
1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in your system. Your reset is now complete
2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and
3. Your reset is now complete
There might also be an option within the BIOS to "Load Defaults" if that is all you are looking to do

hope it helps!

Usually answered in minutes!
a 13 year old PC.
so BIOS is locked out. sure.
there are a vast number of password features in this PC,even drive lock ,and admin lock.
this works only on older PCs.
look for the PW jumper Clip, first.
Or read the service manual>? '
if there is a clip, it covers this in all cases in the manual , yours shows Zero there.
here. your manual, 100% free and deleted at HP.https://www.manualslib.com/products/Hp-C...
the trick you did was wrong,
2 ways ,one is not applicable to this PC
and 2 is.this. wrong steps.
AC pack pulled.
ALL batteries pulled large and coin-cell RTC
then push powerbutton (this discharges CAP.'s)
then wait for 1/2 hour and put it back together, the deal here is , to get power buses inside all below magic 0.5vdc,
but not on your PC, this don't work.
im reading your service manual next for you..
search every word there password and clip , jump, so... what is there, ? NO JOY for BIOS power on password .
the key words there are"Power on Password "features.
read page 177 ?
the book says ask HP (call them)
and on there forum they told others the same.
guess what FIXYa.com is not HP
and HP has secret back doors to many power on passwords. or worse.
the newer the worse.
on w8 and up PC,s they need your UUID serial
and then you must flash the BIOS with a custom just for you only bios Reset file.
and is useless to all others on earth.
the other PCs, there are vast numbers of secret pw codes to reset a PC, by model, exact.
on newer PCs
there are TPM chips that stores this PW.
and has no magic reset you can touch.
lacking HP direct help.
only HP can reset the TPM security chip.
Be sure to tell them you want the bypass.
here they are , HP real
