Roommate's TV instead. My TV is Viera model TC-42E60E, Sony Headphones model MDR-RF985RK. My TV is approximately 6 years old. My roommate has Sony headphones as well, I believe same model. Is there a solution?
I have a couple of suggestions
First try turning off roommates tv and then try to pair your headphones to your tv - could be the Bluetooth is getting confused
If fails - does your headphone pair successfully to any other devices like cell phone ? ( you want to make sure the headphone is in good working order in terms of Bluetooth connectivity)
Also can you pair “other” headphones to your tv? Like your roommates headphones?
I am asking you these questions to try and help you isolate which component is having the issue
Lastly if one device is much newer than the other this may be caused by older/newer versions of the Bluetooth protocol
Better follow up the user manual given for the headphone. All you need to do this just change up your settings that's all.
You have channel settings on the back of the headphone unit. Make sure the both of you are on DIFFERENT channel settings.
SOURCE: ear pad replacement instructions for Sony MDR-V6 Headphones
Hello to all who have exhausted all avenues seeking instructions on how to remove and replace Ear Pads on Sony MDR-V6 Headphones.... All that is required is a little patience maybe some fingernails... The Pads simply slip on and off by pinching ends of cuff that is nearest the plastic backing of The Headphones by pulling them from their seat/flange .. i found it easiest to just roll the cuff off using my thumb w/rolling motion away from the plastic backing/housing of the headphones.. no tools required.. they are installed exactally like one would place a tire on a rim.. exact same motion is required as when removing a tire.. i can give no better illustruction than comparrison to tire removal and replacement. Be careful to make sure one end in completely set deeply into one side before attempting to pull opposing side over its side/flange..start on top and work way around to bottom or vise versa.. To get an idea of what you are attempting to do take a close look at new headphone pad rear and you will see the small flap of leather on rear .. there is a small overlap that fits perfectly over the flange.. dont try to force it as you may tear them...

You can go to Radio Shack and find some that fit. Although Sony does not sell them as they woudl ofcourse want you to purchase new ones you can buy third party cushions that fit.

Okay, cut and strip the cord. There should be two copper wires and (on Sony headphones, at least) a red and a green strand. On a new 1/8" jack, there should be three connections. The middle one is left, and is where the green one goes. The short one on the side is right, and is where the red one goes. The long bit is the common, and is where the copper one goes. Before you solder, however, remember which strand is which, because you have to sand or burn off the colored enamel. (Use a fine grain paper, or use a standard lighter or stick match- anything else might damage or melt the wire)

Check you USER MANUAL to make sure it is actually a headphone OUTPUT jack and not a digital INPUT jack.
If your tv does not have a headphone output jack you can always get an adapter that plugs into the red and white AUDIO OUT jacks in the back.
If you want to turn off your tv's speakers, go to the MENU.
Then go to AUDIO then select SPEAKERS OFF.
Good luck and please post back with how you make out.
Testimonial: "Found the manual & it is a headphone jack. No instruction on how to use it but after trial & error can now use headphones. "
