SOURCE: i put new batteries into both units, the indoor

Sometimes the RF frequency from the outside transmitter loses contact with the clock's frequency ( it has happened to me only twice in 6 years ), and then the outside temp will not show. Simple solution to fix this is: Take down the outside transmitter and the internally mounted clock. Remove batteries from both. Wait about 10 mts. First install batteries in the transmitter, then after about 30 seconds, install batteries in the clock. In about 5 mts, you will find the clock showing the external temp like before.

SOURCE: Outdoor transmitting

These devices have a limited range, normally 20-30' (~6-9m) and that range is influenced by the material that separates them. Any metal structures in their path can shorten the useful range. Also, I think all of these transmit only a second or two every few minutes to conserve battery power.

Radio Shack 63-1090 indoor/outdoor temperature unit. Won't give outdoor readings. Temps are cold, -5F but it always worked before. Put in new batteries in the inside and outside units, wiped outdoor sensor...

Did you reset the sensors after replacing the batteries? Bring the sensor inside and close to the main unit. Replace batteries on both units. Use a thumb tack and stick it into small reset hole near battery compartment to reset both units. If that doesn't work, your sensor needs more troubleshooting or needs to be replaced.

Try removing the batteries from both the outdoor sensor and the indoor unit. I had the same problem and fixed it by doing this.
