I have a Hitachi LE42H508 tv that has an extremely dim picture. I have to turn the lights off to barely see anything on it. Sounds works great and I can navigate the menu and all fine. I can just barley see anything. Any thoughts on what the issue could be?

Look thru the set up menu and see if there is an ambient light setting that adjusts the brightness of the TV based on the light level in the room. If there is then turn it off.

SOURCE: tv still dim after adjusting

sounds like you may have gotten a pwer surge and blew out the regulator in the set. If you know how to trouble shoot regulator curcuitds then it could be as simple as the str type regulator. If you dont then open the set and see what module the set has it would start with a 9-something as it should be inside the back cover and then contact http://www.tristatemodule.com and see what they charge to repair the entire pcb or the exchange of the module. As Zenith sets are made to be repaired in house by quilifyed repair stations IN hOUSE. Good luck to ya.

It sound to me like a defective light engine. If so this is a very expensive repair if you set not under warranty or a service contract. This could have been damaged by a power surge.

SOURCE: Hitachi Ultravision Digital TV dark picture

Looks like

1. A Cold solder in the Video Output stage power supply.

2. A bad Electrolytic Capacitor in the above Video Output stage.

I generally do not waste time in attempting to locate faulty capacitors. There will be only 6-8 pf them in the above stage / section,m and the klot of them would collectivelyt not cost more than 3-4 $ equivalent, in india. Just blindly replace the lot, and the set is ready in 30 mins.

Dunno how much they will cost in your country. Try to look for a 100mfd, 160V Capacitor. Close your eyes and replace. generally does the trick.

My hitachi LE42H508 still wont turn on after replacing power board. Power cord has power coming in but still nothing. No noise lights. Help

Your main board is probably dead and is not allowing the power supply to power up from standby mode. I have seen a few of these TV's fail recently and was able to fix them by replacing the eeprom on the main board.

How do I fix My 50 inch Hitachi Ultravision TV?

Likely the lamp in the set has failed here which does make sense if the picture was dim before---a lot of lamps just before failing all the way dim down.

Hitachi 50V710 The picture is dim, then the bulb went out. I replaced the bulb. all works but the picture is still dim. You can barely see the screen durring the day. And can only use it in a dark room...

I've seen this in two scenarios.

First: The housing of the bulb is dirty (the lens the bulb lights onto) and the internal screen is dirty also.

The second: The bulb is wired reversely of the proper way to wire it. This will light the bulb, but will not light as bright as when it is wired correctly!
