Before I interview this person, I will do some background research on the prospect and ensure that I have appropriate questions to ask. During the interview, I would make sure that I answer the prospect's questions and maintain eye contact with them. I would ask them all appropriate questions and give them an outlook of the job description. After the interview, I would reach out to their references and discuss their skills with other employees before making a final decision.

So here is my take on it.
Make a list of the job criteria that the candidate has to meet and ask questions that test their knowledge.

Ask questions that will require the answers that you will judge the candidate on

question previous experience

ask what they have learnt from making mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, not everyone learns from them

dont ask questions like "if you were a car what car would you be"

also I suggest a few of the following:-
are they dressed smartly
are their fingernails clean
are their shoes polished
do they sit confidently
do they make good eye contact
do they consider their answers before speaking

Most of all you must be confident and not be afraid to ask difficult questions.
