SOURCE: No Heat from Spa

Tcarrigan,

Heater contactors "buzzing": Do you mean normal buzzing or extra loud buzzing? Loud buzzing or chattering can be caused by low voltage to a contactor. If normal sounds, then probably the relays on the contactors is working, but the contacts may be stuck, or burned enough so as not to make contact. First, get a voltmeter and check for 240 volts AC at the heater contactor terminals. If the voltage is low, most likely you need to check the contactors further. Check for dirty contacts, clean if needed. If the contacts are not moving when energized, then you will probably need to replace one or both of the contactors.

SOURCE: The heater makes a banging sound after the burners

What you have is a water flow problem. The water should be going through the heater but it is by-passing it. The water inside the heater is boiling and trying to expand as steam that makes the banging sound. Their is a internal by pass in the water manifold on the side of the heater. If you take this apart you will find a disc on a spring contraption, if it is stuck open the water goes past the heater but still has pressure to kick the pressure switch and fire the heater. Either clean or replace this assembly. The other thing to check for is an external by-pass. This will be a gate valve bridging the inlet and outlet pipes. If you have one of these it should be 80-90% closed or the water goes through it and creates the same problem. This is not on all systems so don't be alarmed if you don't find it. Good luck.

SOURCE: heater will fire up, but only run for about five

Possibly poor water flow. Clean all the baskets, pump too and backwash/clean the filter. If water flow is ok it might be the temperature control. If you are running it on "pool" try using the "spa" control...

If I jump the pressure switch on my Laars Lite pool heater and the pump shuts off, with the high limit switch shut off the heater?

the other safety features will still work as expected. however, by bypassing the pressure switch, the heater will continue to run even if the water system is turned off. since the millivolt system requires no external power to operate, if there is a power outage, the heater will still run causing an EXTREMELY UNSAFE HAZARD. remove the jumper and do without your heater for a week.

Pool heater says lo

Say "lo back! Sorry about that. Can you give me a little more info about indications? Has the filter been cleaned lately? A dirty filter often will restrict the water flow enough to where the heater thinks that the pump is not running.
If there is doubt jump the pressure switch inside the heater and if it fires you have a dirty filter or a bad pressure switch.

Locate the pressure switch within the safety circuit and jump the two wires that are connected to it. Be sure the power is off when doing so. Then you can power up the unit and it should fire assuming all the remaining safety circuit switches are closed. DO NOT RUN this for more than a few moments as you can damage the heat exchanger rather quickly operating the burners without water flowing thru the heater.

Pool heater will not fire up

Check for proper flow at your pump and at the return jets. You have to sustain proper water flow in order of rthe heater to function properly. If the flow is adequate, then use a jumper lead across the pressure switch terminals on the heater and see if it will fire and remain on. If so then the pressure switch is either faulty or you have a flow problem which is not generating enough water pressure to trip the switch. DO NOT adjust the pressure switch, as it is factory set. Check your pump for a clogged inlet or other possible blockage before the heater.

Engineer

It usually references the pressure switch and the pressure switch is one of the safety features that keep the heater from firing without adequate water pressure (signifying the pump is running and therefore water flowing through the heater). It can often turn off the heater even with the pump running if there are enough restrictions to the water flow such as clogged filters or debris in the skimmer or strainer baskets.
