Make sure that the wire going to the clutch is securely in place and making connection. Also, there may be a wire coming from that connection that goes directly to a bolt that secures the engine to the mower. This is a ground wire.

Why wont john deere stx 30 pto wont engage

Most of these mowers have a safety switch between the PTO switch and clutch. A safety switch or relay is most likely the problem. Hope this will help ya.

Why mower blades will not engage when buttom is pulled

I believe this one has an electric clutch. Check to see that the switch is operating properly, that the wiring is good to the clutch, and that the clutch is good. Use a volt meter to check that there is voltage to the clutch when the switch is operated.

Mower blades will not engage on my STX38

Turn the key switch to the on position. Pull the blade engagement switch on.Look under the engine and find the electric clutch. Disconnect the wire connection there and while using an ohm meter, check and see if there is 12 volts on one of the wires. If so, then the clutch may be your problem. If not, then you need to trace back the wire from the clutch connection and find out why there is no voltage

I have a John Deere l130 and the mower blades engage when I start the engine even when the PTO switch is off. Any suggestions?

sounds like you have feed going directly from switch as soon as you turn ingition to start mode ?

check wiring back from electric clutch to main switch

possible 2 wires have been placed on main switch instead of pto switch ?

or you have a crossed circuit somewhere (that is feed from another live circuit) not directly connected and its ended up at electric clutch as soon as you liven main circuit

a wiring diagram may help

check with www.johndeere.com
or www.jdparts and enter their site load your model and type
and go to electrical system and print out a copy of wiring diagarm

you may need to supply and user name and apply for password from john deere via their site apply on line

its a good site for info and parts diagrams

cheers hope it helps

Pto spis all the time on my 1989 john deere 420

Are the blades turning? If they are not, this is normal. The PTO is an electro magnetic clutch that engages when you apply electricity via the PTO switch. When it is disengaged, the bearings and top portion of the clutch will turn because it is coupled to the engine. If the blades ARE turning then you have a bad clutch and will need to repair or replace it
