Excerpt from the PlayStation 3 Manual:

The power indicator on the system front is flashing red and green alternately.
*The interior of the system has become hot. Check whether the system is being used in a hot location or whether the vents are blocked. Continuing to use the system in the above condition will cause it to stop functioning. Turn the system off and leave it unused until it cools down. After the system cools down, turn it on again.

The power indicator on the system front is flashing red and the system does not operate.

*The temperature inside the system has risen too high. Check whether the system is being used in a hot location or whether the vents are blocked. Touch the power button on the system front to stop the flashing, and then leave the system unused until it cools down. After it cools down, turn on the system again.

If this does not resolve your issue, you may need to send it in for a repair.

Green light then red/green light then flashing red

1)Turn off your playstation 3. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work

Send your playstation 3 back to Sony

Any time i turn on my ps3 it will turn off

HI If the light turns yellow then red, this is a overheating issue. let it stand for an hour unplugged to cool.

Now, if the green light doesn't turn yellow before red, this will confirm that the HD(Hard disk), is experiencing some difficulties with the booting process. This will occur if the internal connections are damaged, due to a solder break. In this case, you will need to send the unit to Sony for a repair. Try removing the HD from the unit. after the unit HD is removed for a minute and re-installed, try to power up and initiate a boot. if the unit continues to not boot and flashes the red light after the HD is pulled, this will confirm that the HD is the culprit.

Contact Sony for a repair ticket if the problems persist.

When I turn on the PS3 the green light comes on for a few seconds and then goes back to red. I cannot eject or insert a disk

It's a hardware problem.

You can try booting the ps3 with the hard drive out.

Otherwise google my username and my blog will come up with a bunch of info on how to fix PS3 problems.

Best of luck!

Wont boot fully boot up.

Try reseting your PS3. Turn your PS3 completely off by the switch in the back. Then flip the switch back on. Press on the power button and hold it until the green light comes on, beeps twice then the green light should go out, replaced by a red light. Then turn it on normally.
