check settings, You could bypass softener for a day and night and if regenerates it is defective and should be replaced. Do you have any dripping faucets or leaking water heater.
the regeneration period is set on the water consumption
after a set amount of water is used , it should regenerate automatically
use quality water filters prior to the softener to remove mud and particles that all affect the regeneration process
regeneration is the process of removing the elements that have been collected in the machine and to replenish the salt content in use
I will simplify it. Your softener has a given capacity (IE: 30k, 40k, 45k 60k) Determine the capacity. Water hardness x # of people x 75 = Total hard water used per day. Example: 20gpg hard x 4 x 75 = 6000 grains per day 45k capacity - 6000 (1 day capacity in reserve) = 39k capacity Set to 1950 gallons @ (12lb salt dose) System regenerates every 6-7 days
Need more info ! Is this a meter control, or day wheel ? Does the clock keep accurate time? If you reach around the back of the timer control box, on the left hand side, can you feel heat from the timer motor?..It should feel a bit warm
Water filters do not have a regeneration cycle, they filter the water as it passes through. You do have to replace the filter and the frequency of doing that depends on the sediment in your water. If you are talking about a water softner which does regenerate, all the new ones have sensors in them and they regenerate only when needed. This saves tons of salt over the old systems you would set to regenerate every two or three days whether they needed it or not.
A water softener ether softens or it doesn't. If you are getting hardness leak through continually check to make sure that the bypass valve is closed completely. ( the handle where the pipes go into and out of the softener, make sure the pointer is pointing to service). If you are getting soft water most of the time and it goes hard just before regeneration check the incoming water hardness, if it has gone up you will need to adjust the hardness setting on the unit or if it operates on time, set it to regenerate more often.
I am not familiar with this controller. Is there a manual overide - a large screwdriver slot on the frint of the main shaft?
If so, you should try turning that (clockwise) to the next position and see if the moter will drive it from there. If not, then take it right through 360 degrees, one step at a time.
If it does not work on the next cycle then you may have to replace the controller.
"DAYS00" indicates it is set to run every day. You may have lost power and it reset to factory settings. If the Gold series softener you have is the Aqua Sensor model (this is a probe in the resin tank that senses a change in the water chemistry and sends a signal to regenerate) the probe can get coated with iron and will either send NO signal or a Constant signal which will make it regen every night. Usually a Gold series softener is either set up as metered or aqua sensor. There is an option for an override (such as 14 days) or it can be set up as a time clock model. Unplug the softener for 2 minutes and plug back in, re-program the controls to "DAY14". Make sure what the system is suppose to be set up as, Meter, AS, Time Clock.
