If the WH has a Thermal Release Device (TRD) or Flammable VaporIgnition Resistant (FVIR) shutdown system and the WH is in a dusty/dirty location, the air vents are probably in need of cleaning. Combustion air is drawn from the sides and bottom of the heater. When these vents get clogged, the pilot goes out. Often the burner assembly needs to be removed to clean the unit properly. Should this not be the case, the thermocouple is at fault.

SOURCE: Atwood 6 gal w/h won't stay lit longer than 12 minutes

After it is stored for the 2 weeks, do you turn water on to it, then bleed out any air through the taps before lighting it? If not try that and see what happens and let me know if any different.

SOURCE: my reliance water heater pilot goes out every time

You need to extend the flue vent 2 feet above the roof ridge-line. This will help eliminate the low pressure suction on the pilot light.

SOURCE: How to start water heater

For tank-type gas water heater, lighting instructions are usually shown on label on front of unit.

Look at label on side of unit for Brand, model and type.
If you have tank or tankless.
If this is new installation or old installation that stopped working.
About how old unit is.
If this is gas or electric.
Then add a comment for possible help.

Pilot light will not stay on Bosch natural gas tankless water hea

Check to make sure the flame of the pilot is hitting the thermocoupling. If not then you can use compressed air to clean the pilot port and relight and check again. If the flame is hitting the thermocouple, then it may need to be replaced.

Does vacation mode still leave the pilot on so you don't have ot relight it. I want to put up the themostat 2x or 3x a week and save on gas bills as I'm not home too much. How long will the water stay hot.

Yes the pilot should stay lite in vacation mode, just know yhat a strong wind down the pipe could blow it out. As far the temp. of water just to many variables, but if heater isn't real old it should be able to recover in a very short time
