Hi Patty.
Could be:
Power cord. Check esp. strain-relief where cord enters housing.
On/off power switch. Needs strip down & continuity check.
Motor burnt out. Smell if burnt. Strip search.
Carbon brushes inside motor worn. Dismantle & check / renew.
Does this help?
Regards, Clive.

SOURCE: Won't start.

There is a reset button at the back of the powerhead. The user manual can be downloaded from the electrolux website, although I didn't find it very useful. There was some info on how to change the powerhead drive belt.

SOURCE: with a new bag -after turning vacuum on, it shuts down

This vac is prone to a control valve failure with the exact symptoms you describe. There is a dial valve on top of the machine designed to regulate how full the bag will get. The valve which sits underneath the dial on the vac likely has a broken plunger and will need to be replaced. Take it to an AERUS Electrolux dealer / shop for an experienced tech to work on.

SOURCE: Vacuum will no longer turn on. Vacuum bag was

Same problem. I suppose BOSCH dumped these into the market and have chosen to disown them. Support is pitiful and vacuums have also been taken off their website. Too bad, was a nice quiet product for the 2 months it worked. Solution = new, non-BOSCH vacuum.

SOURCE: my vacuum stops showing "bag full" even after I

This is most probably due to a worn out or clogged Control Valve Assembly.
Detach the hose and see if it runs. If it does, place hand over hole. If it shuts off, CVA is probably the cause. A clogged CVA is generally due to using generic/made-to-fit bags. Genuine bags have "Home Solutions" printed on them.
You can try turning the dial all the way to the large dot, then try to run the vacuum.
If it is the CVA, you'll need to take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store and have their service tech repair or replace the part. I recommend a service and clean of the vacuum at the same time. This will extend the life of the vacuum.

Testimonial: "Super reply! Thanks for specific info. I detached the hose and (dang it) had the same problem. The bags are genuine, so it looks like a dealer repair."

I can't reset my thermal reset button on my Riccar Brilliance

You may have hair and debris in the endcaps or bearings of your brushroll causing a restriction. The belt sensor thinks you have something stuck in the brushroll so it shuts it off. It's a simple fix, if you can't figure out how to do it take it to your Riccar dealer.

How do I change a riccar vacuum bag type z

Attach the bag securely in the bag holder. Slide the bag holder into the groove in the vacuum making sure the hole in the bag lines up with the hole in the vacuum where the hose attaches to.

Riccar vacume lite for bag is on when bag is not full

sometimes that can happen if the pores in the bag are clogged, as might happen if you have been vacuuming very fine dust like wallboard dust. this means that the bag might be functionally full, even though it still appears un-full. also, check the hose for a clog, because that can also give a false indication light.

Is there a reset button

The reset button is internal. If it overheats it will shut off but will come back on when it cools down. This usually means you have a clog somewhere or a clogged bag or filter. If that doesn't take care of it have it checked by your Riccar dealer.

I have a Riccar 8750, when I plug it in any outlet and turn on the headlight does not come on and the vacuum does not turn on. The reset button does not seem to help. It worked fine when I shut it off last...

An 8750 is likely at least 20 years old but still may have lots of life left. I still have 8600 series Riccar vacuums brought in to my vacuum shop for service. You may have a loose wire, bad switch or power cord. I would take it to my local Riccar dealer to diagnose and repair.

Stopped running. Filter was clogged. Cleaned filter and changed bag, but still won't start. Motor was warm when it stopped.

Hi There,

This sounds like the Thermal Switch in your motor tripped. All Riccar vacuum cleaners have a motor reset switch, that will shut the motor down when it gets hot. Usually it's caused by a full bag, clog, or dirty filter.

Try resetting the thermal switch first. If this doesn't work, you may have done some more serious damage to the motor, and it might be a good idea to take it into a local Riccar dealer in your area.

Here's a step by step guide on how to check the reset switch on your Riccar 8850:

To reset the thermal fuse:
  1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner
  2. Check for problem – over–filled bag, clog in hose, clogged filters, etc.
Remove the vacuum bag, and see if you can visibly see any obstructions, or replace the bag if it's full:

Also inspect the Secondary filter while you have the vacuum bag removed from the machine. If the filter is clogged or dirty, rinse under warm water, and air dry completely before reinstalling it into the vacuum. It's best to wash this filter every 30 days, and replace after 4-5 washings.

Here's a link to the secondary filter on our website if you ever need to purchase one:

Your Riccar 8850 also has a set of exhaust filters that are on the front of the vacuum, near the bottom where the upright body meets the agitator housing. These filters when clogged may also cause the thermal switch to trip. These filters are recommended to be replaced every 6-12 months, and are not recommended to be washed.

Here's a link to 2 sets of the exhaust filters for the Riccar 8850 on our website:

It's also possible that you may have clog in the suction port inside of the agitator housing. Remove the bottom plate from the vacuum, and look for the tube that runs on the left hand side from the tray to the rear of the agitator housing. Make sure that this tube is clear from obstructions:

Locate "tripped" fuse – the small white button located on the bottom of the back side of
the main body (roughly one inch to the right of the left wheel)

Using a pencil, paper clip or other pointed object, push the reset button in, you should hear a clicking noise when it resets.

Plug the vacuum cleaner back into the wall, and try turning the vacuum on. It should come right back on. If not, it's best to take your machine into a local Riccar authorized repair facility for further more advanced diagnosing.

Please feel free to ask any follow up questions by adding a comment to this repair, I'm always more then happy to answer any and all follow up questions if you need some clarification. If this was helpful, please rate the repair helpful or leave some feedback for me. Thanks so much,

My Riccar 8850 stopped running. Changed the bag and cleared all hoses. Light comes on but the motor doesn't operate. I can turn the brush freely by hand.

Greetings from GoVacuum,

If the light on your Riccar 8850 is coming on, but the motor is not coming on, this indicates that your motor has gone bad. There is a reset switch on the back of the vacuum cleaner that sometimes trips if the bag is too full, or the filters are not maintained, but when this happens nothing on the vacuum comes on including the headlight. If the headlight is coming on, this indicates that electricity is making it down to the headlight, and the current is going through, but just not activating the motor. This is a tell tale sign of your motor being bad, and needing replacement. You can purchase the motor for the Riccar 8850 (12 AMP, 2 stage motor, Riccar part D113-1700 $122.44) from GoVacuum by giving us a call, as we don't yet have this part on our website.

I hope this helped you. We have been fixing Riccar's for over 30 years, and they are great vacuum cleaners, and the age of the model 8850 is probably the life expectancy of this vacuum cleaner.

Lost suction after I changed the bag and cleaned the air filter

The bag has a cardboard collar with latex. It must seal over the inlet. Make sure not to tear the bag when replacing.

Is the cover closing properly? The cover seals against a gasket. The same with the filter.
