I have a Sony Bravia 40" smart LED tv. The tv turns on for 1 second with the Sony logo then cuts to an illuminated black screen. I tried to factory reset it. Then it skips the sony logo and goes straight to the menu screen, for 1 second, then cuts to the lit up black screen. I thought it was some blown LED lights, so I dismantled the tv. And no dice. They are all working fine. What else could it be? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
Chip failure
Where would this chip be located? How do I test it? With a multimeter? If this is the problem, can I replace just the chip or would I need to replace an entire board? Thank you for your time and helping me!!
kelly if it doesn't go well for your TV would you sell me the LCD part ? mine is broken. [email protected]

Unhook the plug that goes to the panel that supplies power to the LED's and measure the voltage between the + and - you should get around 100 volts, if you see this then chances are even though you see the LED's light with the cover off you have at least one that is drawing to much current and shutting down that part of the power supply. Here is the service manual link that will help find the proper connector.

Not really that tough. Sounds as though the backlight is shutting down, either from a power supply failure, or a failure of the backlight circuit itself. You can verify this by holding a flashlight to the screen in the area where the menu usually appears to see if it displayed on the LCD panel with no backlight. If you can faintly see the menu displayed, your backlight has shut down and the most likely cause is the backlight inverter board, followed by the power supply and the backlights themselves which are part of the LCD panel. If you found this information answered your questions, please be sure to rate it. Thanks!

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.
To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

Problems relating to the automatic turn on and turn off of a set like this usually point to the main board being an issue. For this set, I believe Sony refers to that board as the "AU" board.
It's probably not the G/Power Supply board, especially if it turns itself on. Power supplies will turn a set off, but rarely--rarely--turn itself on.
If there's no kind of extended warranty involved here,
you could be looking at $500.00 for parts and labor to repair this kind of problem.
As always, try any software/firmware updates Sony might have available on their website prior to pursuing a repair visit.

I have the same tv with the same problem. My tv is about 3 1/2 years old. I took it to the shop yesterday and today they told me that I had a bad lcd panel and a bad FL1 circuit board. They also told me it was going to be $3800.00 dollars to fix. I am now on my way to buy another tv, needless to say it will not be a Sony. Sony knows about this problem and refuse to do anything about it. Good luck.
