That may be normal. Some generators have to have the magnetic field excited in order to increase the magnetic lines of force for the armature to cut through.

Have you checked the fuse? Mine keeps blowing the fuse (located on the back of the control panel) with each startup and shutdown or use of idle control.

When I try to start it it clicks than nothing. Any thoughts?

What you are describing is the symptoms of a dead battery, bad or loose cable or perhaps a seized piston.

Starts up but will not run but for a few seconds

Check the oil. Some engines will shut down if the oil is low. Otherwise you probably have a dirty fuel filter and the carburetor fills up with gas long enough to start but isn't getting enough gas to keep it full.

Start switch does nothing

Try the easy thing first, check connections and lube switch with mfg suggested lubricant. Sounds like a corrosion problem to me.

Fuse blows repeatedly

The auto speed control is failed. Keep it manual and see how it does...It will run at full throttle even when no load is running. Then fix the throttle control when able.

I have a Generac 15000 watt portable generator. It cranks great, but will not start. The plugs are wet, doesn't seem to be getting any spark. Have replaced plugs, any suggestion.

I have solved the flooding problem . unfortanetly you must remove the carb to fix it. once you remove the carb you need to remove the fuel bowl. In the bottem of the fuel bowl there is a electronic seloniod that controols the amount of fule going to combustion. this aria had varnish and gunk built up around the plunger of the selonoid, long story short clean this out with carb and chook cleaner and put it back together. start her up and she will run like a champ.
