For anyone providing answers. The EH1400 has no brushes, it does have two rectifiers (two on the brushless rotor, one for each of the two coils housed on the rotor) it also has a double rectifier together to make a 12volt DC, in addition to the 120v a.c.. There are 7 wires coming from the field coils. Two blue wires connected to a 30uf capacitor to energize the rotor coils. A brown and red for 120VAC, a black, yellow and red for 12VDC (the yellow and red are rectified into a white wire) giving dc power across the black and white wire.
Check the brush holder for worn brushes. If they seem ok then the voltage regulator has failed.

Hi, remove the electric control panel & check the wiring as sometimes we have seen the wires coming off the voltage change over switches.
Also some of these units you can check the connections in the rear of the alternator & if it has brushes that they are not stuck.
Another problem we have had is the trip switches have went faulty but still switch operates ok, they need to be checked with a probe type tester for conductivety.

Hi, I have the same generator and I pull the load and it is fine. The engine RPM is controlled by the
governor. The voltage will not come up until the RPM is at full. First see what the RPM problem is and then check the voltage. Open the cover and look to see if the carb linkage is hooked up , if it is you mite have carb problem and address that first. Hope that helps.
SOURCE: Generator stopped producing electricity
if the generator has been sitting for a while you might have to excite the magnets to start producing power. plug in a reversible drill and with the generator running turn the drill in the reverse direction by hand while holding the trigger in the forward position.

If it's still under warranty take it back to the retailer and tell them it quit working - don't offer any other information.
If you must fix the E/G yourself - On the generator there's a cover on the back; take the cover off so that the back of the windings are exposed. You should see 4 to 6 diodes mounted to the rotor and stator...those diodes are most likely burned out because of temperature failure, due to overload. You have to take them out to isolate them...they should read .6 Ohms one way; reverse the leads and they slhould read about 1.2 Ohms. If there shorted you'll read 0 Ohms and open infinety.
Anyway, replace those diodes and you should re-establish your field winding voltage which develops you A/C output.
Good Luck,
Mike...
