Dishnetwork says its not a problem on there end It's with the name brand of the TV but I can not find my owners book to even try and help. Can anyone out there give me some advice. Thanks.

Same problem, but when I go to V_Chip Setup there's no menu, it's j0ust a blank screen. Thanks

  • vegalightsmy Jan 24, 2009

Will allow shopping channels, network television and kids shows but anything that could have a possible adult content, DIY, TVLand, Nick at Night, National Geocgraphic, USA, etc are shut off within 2-3 seconds occasionally showing a msg that it is a protected program. Most of the time if the msg appears it disappears too quick to register what it says in detail. When you go to the menu for vchip it is empty / blank screen - nothing to select or work with.

This problem is caused by your TV's V-chip setting.

To fix the problem:

Push the "Menu" button (on either the remote or the TV's fromt panel).
Use the "Channel Down" button to go to "V-CHIP SETUP"
Use the "Volume Up" button to select it.
In the V-chip setup screen, the rating that is selected by the user as viewable will allow that rating and only lower ratings to be viewed on that TV. (If TV-G) is selected, then any programs rated higher than TV-G will be blocked.

So, the easistway to get rid of any blocking is to set the rating to TV-MA (mature), and then any and all programs will be viewable on that set. Select "TV-MA" by hitting the "Volume Up" button after you have scrolled down to that rating with the "Channel Down" button.

Then hit "Menu" to exit out of the settings and saave your changes.

I have an HD 32 inch television and the power wont

Talk to Sylvania about your TV. If your TV is fried (if it's off it's still vulnerable) they MIGHT be nice and replace it. I recommend you protect all your electronics with surge protectors, since they'll help you should this happen again.

New TV 9 mos old, Won't stay on after power up? Remote or manual turn on, set keeps turning off after 1-2 second green on and brief screen flash.

I would try leaving the TV unplugged for 30mins so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, your TV should still be under warranty. I know 95% of come with a 1 year warranty.
The most common problem with Sylvania TVs made by FUNAI, the Backlight Inverter board fails to early in life. ( That's the part that powers the screen)
The Tv can't power up the screen and it turns off automatically. Basically called "Protection Mode" so it protects the other parts inside the TV.

Sylvania Lcd 32 in.

Is it under warranty by chance?
What is happening is when you turn on the TV, it's trying to power up the screen at that moment. If it can't power up the screen, it will turn off automatically. This is what they call, "Protection Mode".
All the TVs made by Funai (Emerson and Sylvania) are having the same problem. The Inverter Transformers needed to power up the screen are somewhat low quality and burn out easily. I'm sure of of them burned out.
Your TV, I believe, takes 6 of those things to power the screen. And they are all on one circuit board.

If the TV is not under warranty, then let me know what the board number is on that circuit board. The board inside the TV should have maybe 6 connectors that hook up the screen. I may be able to track down a replacement board for you.

Our TV Sylvania blocks some progrfams on ch. 51

Go to the TV setup menu and look for the V-Chip settings. Turn it off altogether or if you have children you may want to just raise the block up to MA, R, or X rated programs

We're looking for the code number to program our universal remote

Find out what company makes the remote. Do a search for that company along with the search words: remote control tv codes. Their web site should be happy to help you with a list of all the tv codes.
