Pentax K2000 DSLR stopped working after using manual K-mount lenses?
Hi.
History:
In the 80's I used a Ricoh KR-S SLR 35 mm film camera, which used several manual-focus K-mount lenses, with a small metal lever protruding into camera body.
This camera 'had a great fall' and was damaged, but I still kept all equipment.
A few weeks ago, I invested in a Pentax K2000 DSLR, which came equipped with a Pentax 35-80 mm auto-focus lens.
Everything worked fine, until I downloaded the PDF
manual for the K2000, which stated that manual Ricoh lenses can be used on this model, sacrificing auto for manual photography.
As old Ricoh / Rikenon lenses are a 300 mm telephoto, 28 mm wide angle, plus a slide-duplicator barrel lens,I checked that metal tab didn't foul mirror and such, tried them one-by one. All appeared OK. Yet now when I try use the camera, new and old lenses clipped on, camera is totally dead.
Screen off, no power light.
I see auto-lens contact pins on K2000 body, and wonder if these could have shorted out when non-autos were tried?
Tried fresh 1500 mA dry-cell photo batteries from camera dealer, and fully-charged rechargeable batteries, nothing doing.
Any suggestions very welcome.
Thanks, Clive.

What lens mount do you have on the lens? In other words, with what make film camera did you use the lens? A DSLR from the same company should be able to use the lens.
Newer lenses tend to be sharper and lighter than older lenses, and with better optical characteristics. Some digital-only lenses are also designed for the smaller sensors of some digital cameras, allowing for further reductions in size and weight. In general, lenses designed for film cameras will work with digital cameras.
If you already have Pentax-mount lenses, by all means continuing using them if you're satisfied with the results.
before buying ask the sigma salesman or dealer about it, i know only for nikon camera- it's lenses are compatible for all camera, digital or film base slr cameras.
If you have Ricoh lenses that do not have electrical contacts, you can use the lenses on Pentax digital SLR cameras. If you have Ricoh lenses with electrical contacts, you can not use them on Pentax digital cameras.
Any Pentax K-mount lens will fit any Pentax DSLR. The DSLR will fire the shutter. There is a menu setting (RTFM) which allows the use of older lenses, but you will lose some of the automation (again RTFM). Remember to allow that the effective focal length when using a "film" lens on a DSLR body goes up by 50%.
A standard 50mm lens becomes a 75mm equivalent, but stays a large aperture.
If u used to have a Pentax camera, i would recommend you buying a Pentax DSLR, because Pentax film lenses still works on Pentax DSLR. I still use some of my prime lenses on my K10D.
Depending on which series (screwmount, K, M, etc) you have, you'll get different levels of functionality, but yes -- all Pentax lenses for 35mm and DSLR (except for the medium-format digitals) will work with your K200D. Read the manual.
The shutter parts are most likely broken. That is usually the tell-tale sign of a broken camera, not advancing. Repairs for film cameras are very expensive and if parts are needed, it may be impossible for a 20+ year old camera. My suggestion is to find a replacement film camera system. Your Ricoh lenses will fit on a Pentax camera, but not work in Auto Mode. Prices of used Pentax cameras with built in motor drives are around $100. Check on line cameras stores. They have lots of use cameras/lense. A lens to use on that is another $75 or so. Only Nikon and Canon make new film cameras anymore. If you want an indestructable K-mount, find a Pentax K1000. Many lenses are available but no motor drive nor auto exposure on that model.
