My navman tracker 5500 is having trouble reading the sd card. I need to remove the card several times and wipe the card contacts any solutions?

I am having same trouble. I contacted Navman NSW and went through all the settings without result. It was suggested that the problem could be the external antenna, if not a fault in the machine. I have seen an after market antenna for about $19 so I might try that. It does seem as though the antenna is not talking to the Tracker.

Just got the same one and same problem, I also have a 5505i and is only zooms in close when i put in the c-map chip and it zooms close in the chip area only?? now i have a chip for the 5500i and it zoomed in but only on the Texas part of the map, that is the chip it came with, but i live in Canada. Be carefull the c-map max chip for the 5505i is not compatible with the 5500i it needs c-map nt+ chip. 5500 chip is black 5505 is orange

This is not an uncommon error and is mostly referred back to Nab=vman for repair

Other than sending it to Navman you can...Open up the unit (this voids any and all warranties you may still have and if you go with this option forget about contacting Navman). F20's internal flash is just a hidden micro SD card. If you don't have it already, you'll need to get a cheap micro SD card adapter -- with it you will be able to read the card with any card reader. You could then scan card for errors and look for log files that could provide more information on what went wrong with your unit.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.U WILL FIND THE ANTENNA IS BUGGERED.THERE ARE NO SPARE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS MODEL.LESSON; DON'T BUY NAVMAN OR NORTHSTAR.I HAVE ONE OF EACH. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Its water ingress causing a short in the high voltage wiring PCB.

Open the unit with a 1.5mm allen key, unscrew the power/data cable sockets with a spanner and GPS antenna inlet with an 8mm socket (NA to i models) .

Where water has arced there will be burning black on the green PCB evident, cut the PCB wire and remove the section around the burn.
solder a new wire to bypass the short.
Dry the unit and seal with silicone to prevent re occurrence.

Its a 2 hour repair requiring a high DIY soldering standard but off set it against the time it will take to reload you waypoints in a new plotter , its well worth the trouble.

Yes the screen is replaceable, there are four screws holding it to the PCB and a short ribon and a two wire power lead.

Navman 5500 does not support C-MAP MAX maps.. only C-MAP NT+ maps.

I have bought a boat with a Navman Tracker 5600 and I want to buy a C-Map card for it for my region, I have been told I need "the old black type" but no one can tell me what the card or type of card is called. I also need to find out where I can purchase onr from. Thanks to anyone that can help in anticipation, regards Trev T

Used to take less than a minute to acquire satellites now takes 10-20minutes.
