SOURCE: I have a eu2000i honda generator and will not
Hi and welcome to Fixya. I am Kelly.
The key words here are I just changed the oil. The engine has an oil level sensor that will kill the spark if it does not sense that there is enough oil in the engine.
First... re-check the oil level.
2nd... Make sure that the 2 wires on the LOW Oil Lever Sensor assy are totally connected.
After re-verifying the oil level is correct, the LOW Oil Level Sensor is installed and properly connected.... Check for spark once again.
If you still do not have spark then:
Disconnect ONE wire from the LOW Oil Level Sensor and check for spark again. You should have spark.
If you do have spark remove the LOW oil sensor and clean it with fresh oil. If you have an oiler squirt it in the holes on the side of the LOW Oil Level Sensor
(The LOW Oil Level Sensor will be on the side of the crank case of the engine. Usually on opposite side of the engine as the Oil fill hole / dip stick.)
I think this will get you going again but if not just respond via comments and we will get back to you.
Thanks for using FixYa.
Kelly

Hi, well the Red Light indicates an "Overload" situation, now if this occurs and there is NO Load connected, then usually this indicates a rather bad fault. Most often within the control & regulator electronics, there is NO "Quick Fix" sorry.... Most likely you have short circuited regulator components? But without examining the unit, this is pure speculation, based on experience.
You need to obtain a service manual, see link below to understand what I mean, in this manual, it will give you troubleshooting steps to perform to isolate and hopefully repair your unit.

Now if you don't wish to DIY, then the best thing to do is to contact a Honda generator repair center, and get the unit inspected by them, as usual ONLY ask for a "Quote" as to the costings, when you have been made aware of these, well then you can make up your mind as to what to do, repair or replace?

it may be a thermal coupler that cuts out when it gets to hot i would let it cool off for a bit then try it with a lighter load and go from there

Sounds like a bearing has failed or something has gotten inside the generator or engine area where it spins and is now rubbing against it. There is a bearing at the far end of the generator from the motor and it is most likely to be where the noise is coming from. Best to repair it before it seizes and wears out parts you don't want to have to try to find!
