Follow the following:
>Call Center at the bottom
>General call settings
>03 Speed dial
>Check that "enable speed dial" is on
Then
>02 Set number
>You will see a list of "empty"
>Touch on the one you want to assign a number
>Edit
>this takes you to your phone book
>Choose a name from your list and save it to your speed dial.
>To call the number from your speed dial list, click on the "Phone dial" icon, and hold the number down. For example, is the number 2 is home, hold 2 down until you see it dial and there you have it.
Hopes this helps

If you are interested in changing something that also could cause you problems here is how to make the phone work with html web pages.
(this is taken from a website and not my original words)

First of all, I must warn you that this involves editing things in the engineering mode. So, if you have a flashing cable this is the moment to make a backup of your firmware. Also, Don’t change anything else except for what I am telling you. You can really easy brick your phone if you don’t know what you are doing.
So, let get started. first of all go to engineering mode. To do this dial *#3646633# on the screen. You will see a list of setting. Go to Misc. and then to WAP. What we must do is change the type of pages the browser accepts. Go to Accept Header and change it to HTML. Until now the browser only accepted WAP2.0 pages. So rendering gMail or other more complex pages was impossible. Click OK and then Back.
