I have a standard digital Honeywell thermostat. It it running the furnace in opposite modes.

When I turn on the air the fan and burners come on. When I select heat I can hear the condenser with no fan, it's like the delay you experience with the fan coming on when it gets to temp. I've tried resetting the thermostat and that doesn't work. Batteries are fine. Could my thermostat be bad?

SOURCE: I have a similiar problem to this one...

Sure sounds like the t-stat is bad having to throw the switch on and off to get it to work. Try to find a White Rogers brand they are the best.

SOURCE: Carrier furnace fan works in

First take off the thermostat cover and turn off power to unit jump the R,G Y wires at the thermostat subbase with power back on, if the fan starts up then the thermostat is bad and must be replaced. If it still does not start then the relay on the control board is bad and must be replaced.

Why doesn't the fan come on? Used to work fine with the old thermostat.

Some of the new programmable t-stats have to have the fan configured to run in the heat mode. I'd suggest going though the configuration menu and check to see that it is set correctly. I'd bet its not. Some furnaces require the stat to turn on the fan in the heat mode just like it turns the fan on in the cool mode whereas other brands of furnaces have the fan control built into their control scheme.

I install 2 new honeywell non programmable thermostats. The temp never reaches the setting temp. Always 5 to 8 degrees off. I can not get the furnace to heat the home over 70 degrees. Even set at 80. Any...

If the furnace is cycling on and off and not reaching temp there is a problem in the control circuit. If the thermostat is not satisfied the furnace should be running without shutting off in which case the capacity of the furnace is inadequate because of size or problems reducing the capacity. This could be caused by an increase in home size, poor air flow (dirty filter, loose fan belts, fan running slow, obstructions in the duct), dirty heat exchanger or burner, reduced gas flow, over temperature switch bad causing the burner to shut off early, or a few more technical reasons. You may do well to call a technician to troubleshoot this problem.

Honeywell manuals

Turn the fan in the ON position to verify you have power to the furnace. If the fan turns on, turn it back to AUTO. Pull the thermostat off the wall to get to the low voltage wiring. If you have a gas furnace, pull the red & white wires off and pinch them together. If the furnace starts, the thermostat is bad. If it doesn't start, then begin looking for flame roll out switches in the furnace burner compartment to manually reset. If the furnace inducer (combustion motor starts, & you get no flame, then it is either an ignition problem, or someone didn't pay their gas bill. :0

With my thermostat on auto and on heat, and the furnace turns on, the fan will not turn on with it. If I switch the fan to on it will run after I repeat back and forth from auto to fan on several times...

Well, here is the deal: unless you rewired from two wire to multiple (usually 4 to 10 wires) wires, the fan cannot be controlled from the thermostat, even though the thermostat indicates that it can > it is a physical wiring and fan administration issue.

Unless you have a newer furnace, the fan is controlled by plenum temp. Works like this: burner turns on, no fan until the plenum temp reaches set temp,....then burner off, and fan keeps running until pelnum temp drops, and often the fan may kick on a few more times as this temp depletes.

FURNACE CYCLING ON AND OFF ..

I would check furnace filter first. If that looks good i would check the thermostat. To check thermostat turn power off to furnace then take thermostat off the wall and connect wires labbled R & W together then turn power on and check furnace to see if it runs for more than a couple of minutes. If so install a new thermostat. If that doesn't work let me know and i can give you a couple more thing to try.
