when hammering there is only medium pressure on the unit
you let the unit do the chiselling as any pressure and the unit cannot work as it requires for it to be allowed to rebound a it
That sounds sooooooooooooo like you have a bad starter. Broken teeth in the starter (which change positions with movement of the car, or even by tapping on the starter with a hammer) keep it working erratically. If you want to check this yourself, next time it wont start, locate the starter and whack it several times with a hammer. If it does you'll know you need a new starter. Also, make sure your battery posts and terminals are clean and securely tightened.
sometimes a rubber mallet doesn't work on the stater, you actually have to hit it with something stronger, like a hammer while turning it over. If not check to see if you have a pro lock on your vehicle because if that becomes just a little loose it won't start.
Have you put a proper charging meter on it to see if it is properly charging?if not properly charging replace alternator new, used or rebuilt your choice.
next time it starts and cut off have someone smack bottom of fuel tank with hammer while you try and start car if it then starts you have a bad fuel pump
bang on the bottom of the fuel tank,in the middle with a hammer or rubber mallet and crank the engine at the same time. if it starts, replace the fuel pump.
When it won't start, does it at least make a click sound? If so try tapping on the body of the starter with a small hammer while some else holds the the key in the start position. If it starts then your starter needs to be replaced.
dont laugh.. but take a hammer and beat on the gas tank while somebody cranks over the motor.. If it cranks.. Then the fuel pump is bad.. Try It! Thanx
Check the cord...sometimes if the brushes are not seated well or if there is a cut in the cord you will run into that problem....If it is not that then possibly you just have a faulty drill
