SOURCE: What model is my new home janome sewing machine, or how do I find it?

Difficult for us to know. The model name/number is usually stamped or printed on the machine--sometimes on a plate or sticker or engraved in the metal.

Have you tried a Janome dealer? Sometimes they carry parts for older machines or maybe they can order it.

I have an opportunity to buy a Janome 8002D serger. I don't know how old it is? What is it worth? Serial No.: 020050716 Lillian

Hello, Lillian -

I checked the instruction manual available for the Janome 8002D serger through the Janome website:
https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/sergers/inst-book-8002deng.pdf
and did not find a date of printing on the manual (which would give an idea for the year/s the model was manufactured.)

I also found the following information on one of the Janome web pages:
(Quote)
For consumers looking to date an antique New Home sewing machine that was made in Orange, MA or Rockford IL, please click here. We are sorry, but no other New Home or Janome sewing machines can be dated.
The only information we can provide is a date of manufacture if you have the following information:
  • model number or style number
  • serial number
  • place of manufacture.

It looks like Janome still sells the model 8002D serger:
https://www.janome.com/en/machines/sergers/8002d/

As for the value of the machine you are considering purchasing, you can get an idea of the price/s sellers are asking by looking at online sales of that model sewing machine. Here are some links:

Best wishes.

Serial number 685041449 operator manual please

A serial number is no good Colin as that is just a numerical number of the number of machines made. In such cases you need the make and MODEL number.

Here are all the Janome manuals from the site.

Serial number located

There is a compliance plate with voltage, machine model, and the SN will be the serial number....usually near the power inlet

Why do you need a serial number, it is largely irrelevent unless for a lost/stolen machine

Serial number 685013042 I want to get a manual

Try looking on the Janome site.
http://www.janome.com/index.cfm/Machines/Retired
Use the forum or the Ask Jan section, as someone there might know.
http://www.janome.com/fusetalk/forum/
If you can't see your machine on the site, look for one that looks the most similar and you should be able to download a manual by clicking on the specification for that machine.
Hope this helps!
