This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too, as well as other functions.

Have a Whirlpool over-stove microwave. Can set time but then it scrolls between AM & PM. Cannot find how to set the AM/PM portion, and completing the time set.
Which microwave model do you have? Most of the Whirlpool microwaves that I know only have a 12-hour clock. They do not indicate AM or PM. To set the ones that I know, press Clock. Type in the current time in a 12-hour format. Press Clock again. The only model that I find quickly that has an AM/PM option is the GH7208XR. On that model, start with the main menu displayed on the LCD screen. Touch Settings and Info. Next press Clock. Then press Adjust Time. Follow the instructions to set the time and the AM/PM setting. I'll assume you use the +/- buttons. To hide the clock, get to the Clock Screen. Press Adjust Time and Hide Clock to return to the main menu. The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.
