SOURCE: analog clock not in sync with digital clock
This problem may be due to your analog hands being improperly zeroed. To find out, try this: 1. Put the watch in chronograph mode by rotating the crowon in its normal position to "chr" 2. Pull out the crown two clicks. This should cause all of the hands to point to zero. If you do this and your minute hand points to 1 o'clock, or five minutes, you will know that this is the problem. If this is the problem, you can can correct it by zeroing the hands as follows: 1. Put the watch in chronograph mode by rotating the crowon in its normal position to "chr" 2. Pull out the crown two clicks. This should cause all of the hands to point to zero, or close to it. You should also notice the letters "HR" in the lefthand digital display. This allows you to move the hour hand by rotating the crown. If the hour hand is not pointing at 12 o'clock, rotate it so that it does. 3. Push the top button once. The letters "MIN" should appear in the lefthand digital display. This allows you to move the minute hand on the large dial, and the minute and hour hands on the small UTC dial. Rotate the crown so that the minute hand points directly to 12 o'clock. 4. Push the top button again. The letters "SEC" should appear in the lefthand digital display. Rotate the crown to point the second hand directly at 12 o'clock. 5. Push the crown back into its normal position. Set the digiatl time and date in your tie zone, and your analog hands should match the digital read-out. If the zeroing of the hands is not the problem, I don't know what is wrong with the watch.

Look at the bottom right of the back of the clock and find the "M Set" button. Simply hold it down and the clock will move (very slowly). When it gets to the correct time, let go of the button. After that, the radio controlled shoul dcontrol should correct any minor differences in time.

SOURCE: The chronograph second hand now resets to the 5 O-Clock position?
I have found instructions that tell you how to reset the hands but there are several buttons on your watch and to avoid confusion you really need to see a diagram.
You can do this by going to the Seiko web site (seiko.com), click on "support", then "instruction booklets".
Scroll down the next page and you will see a list of the watches made by Seiko. Select yours and download.
Go to page 16.

It's not the motor it's the unit in the middel that works the clock it self. I have the same problem. When the clock passes the hour it is supose to send a signal to start the motor. There are two tiny pices metal that are supose to contact each other on the hour and they break off easy.
You have to replace the clock unit and reconect the two black wires.
Try by passing it. The two black wires that come from the clock unit. Cut them and touch them together. Make sure the light sencer on the front is not covered.
Good Luck

Place your Seth Thomas atomic clock face-down on a table or desk and locate a series of buttons labeled "PST," "MST," "CST" and "EST" on the back of the clock. Press the appropriate button to set the time zone. Turn your attention to the small lithium battery-powered digital clock display on the back of your clock. With the correct time zone set, the digital display should accurately reflect the current local time. Locate the AA battery compartment on the back of your clock. Put two new AA batteries into your clock's battery compartment. Set the "Mode" switch on the back of your Seth Thomas atomic clock to "Run." Wait for it to adjust to the correct time. The automatic time-adjustment process can take up to 45 minutes, but is usually completed much sooner.

The hands going to 12 means the hands have been put on in the right orientation for the clock to display the correct time. If they don't stop at 12 oclock, then you need to put a pin in the little hole at the back to freeze the clock gears and push the hands to 12 oclock.
Then just leave the clock overnight, it should find the WWVB signal and automatically set...
