When you open gas , do you smell it? if not maybe venturi is blocked. can you light the burner with a lighter, if so gas is not problem. i think you have to do some troubleshooting first to eliminate the cause. if igniter works its a gas problem, if gas is coming in, its the igniter

SOURCE: Propane patio heater ignition problem

I would change the thermocouple and here is why:

The thermocouple is the pilot's, well, co-pilot! It is the electronic device that senses if the pilot flame is hot enough to sustain burning the gas fuel from the burner. If the thermocouple thinks it's safe, then it keeps open the main gas valve located in the pilot assembly. If the thermocouple does not sense enough heat from the pilot flame (such as when the pilot is out), then the thermocouple shuts off the gas valve to the burners.
How the Thermocouple Works
So what is this thing and how does it work? Well the thermocouple (technically called a thermocouple junction) is a device that contains two metal wires welded at the ends and placed inside a protective metal case. The thermocouple sensor is found at the business end of the pilot flame and is designed to be placed in the hottest part of the flame. The other end is connected to the pilot valve body. As the thermocouple heats up, it produces a small amount of electricity and when it gets hot enough from the pilot, send a signal to open the gas valve by using a solenoid operated by a 24 volt transformer. The thermocouple calls the shots, and by converting heat to an electrical signal, it allows the gas valve to open or close. Once the gas valve is open, gas is then constantly supplied to the pilot and as required for the gas burners (as called for by the thermostat). If the pilot goes out, then the thermocouple gets cold and produces no electric signal to open the gas valve's solenoid and the gas valve shuts off the gas supply to the pilot and burners

SOURCE: gas furnace, main burner ignites the other 2 don't. then shutdn.

Between the burners is a small rail in the pressed steel where the flame runs across to light the other burners and it sounds like there is dirt or debris in the step over rails causing the problem. You will need to use some compressed air on those rails to clear them out. Once the rails are clear the other two burners should ignite right away.

SOURCE: MAIN BURNER WILL NOT IGNITE

Any RV sales and service dealer can get parts for you, if they don't already have them in stock. Is the pilot staying on at all? If yes, what happens when you turn from pilot, to On? One easy thing to try is undo thermocouple (probe that sits above pilot flame) from gas valve (3/8" wrench) and clean the end of the thermocouple with fine steel wool, as well as spray some WD-40 into the hole it came out of, and give it a blast of compressed air after to clean it out as well. (protect your eyes) Then re-install the fitting and snug it up good, and try lighting again. You may get lucky that it's just corroded or dirty, and this may cure that.

Testimonial: "very good info except my description of the problem was not detail enough."

Model RDSS30QW front X-LO Burner does not ignite. All others work just fine.

Dear Radko,
Ranges today often have safety features that prevent fire & explosion, but I should recommend you not use the range until this problem is fixed, because of the danger of fire and/or explosion. Sounds like something has plugged the orifice to the burner.
Gas companies, whether they be LP gas, Propane, or natural gas often have people in their employ who can help with this problem.
Recommend you call a gas company, especially your supplier.
God bless your efforts.

Nepolean fireplace wont come on when switch turned on. pilot works fien

I have a Monarch fireplace (LP). Each year I have to take a can of computer cleaner "air" and spray out the oxygen sensor located near the pilot light. If dust or a spider blocks this oxygen sensor, the unit will NOT turn on. The pilot lights but the rest won't start. You can also contact your local gas company and ask where yours is located on your unit.

Bluestar rangetop clicks several times before igniting

Do other appliances in your home using LP gas work properly? If so, then this is probably an air/fuel mix problem on the burner(s). If this is a new rangetop there should be directions with the range and the LP conversion kit to instruct on proper adjustments. Be certain the correct LP orifice was installed for each burner (they likely have different BTU ratings for different sized burners) and the ignitor post is clean and spaced properly to burner. Then adjust the air mix to achieve a blue flame with just a tip of yellow. Delayed ignition usually results from the wrong air/gas mixture which doesn't ignite until too much fuel has accumulated. In many locations the company you purchase LP gas from will have someone who can check and adjust this. If the range was shipped from the factory as LP gas ready, then you can also contact your dealer and request assistance.

Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

MY DUCANE FURNACE FIRE TOO HARD ON IGNITION

Gas pressure may be too high. you need to check the pressure at the regulator. 3.5in. wc for natural gas and 11.7in. wc for LP gas. sometimes when the system does not purge the gas vapors with the draft induce blower, when the ignition starts it will fire hard because of the excess gas vapor found in the burner chamber. hope this helps you out.

Does conversion from LP gs to Natural gas on Ducane 30400040 (essentially makes it a model 30400041) require changing the inlet orofice on the IR burner ? I purchased conversion kit that included all new...

Did the conversion kit give you an LP orifice for every new gas valve? LP gas orifices have smaller holes than Nat gas orifices. Can you smell gas when you turn on the IR burner by itself? Some burners styles have an air adjustment on the end that fits over the orifice. Make sure it's getting enough air. Also make sure your ignitor sparker is positioned where the spark can ark against the top of the burner. Ducane grills have rotary ignitors, so turn it (with gas off) and see if you can actually see where it's sparking. If it's not sparking in the right place, it will be difficult to light.
